Roughly a month ago, I posted a short clip of the upcoming documentary, “Thelonius Hands,” which would go on to receive a positive reaction. Without attempting to find some cool phrase to describe it, here’s the first official trailer. I’m a big fan of stuff like this mainly because it’s something I’d eventually love to do. The thing about music is that it tells a story. Yet even with the actual songs/albums/performances, there are stories behind them which are equally, if not more, intriguing.
The reasoning for the music in this trailer stems from the desire to create a “dark, creepy” feel the film will eventually take when seen in its entirety. As of right now, the film’s director, DuBois Ashong, is still eying a January 23, 2010, release but does acknowledge the date may change as he “gets deeper into my art reel.”
Regardless, as we end one decade and prepare to start another, be sure to support your “lesser-known” artists. True talent transcends all levels of fame.

Needless to say I love Thelonious Monk, I have been playing on stage in a one play by Laurence Holder for over ten years….. Looking forward to see this work and I’m very happy to hear that Jamil is playing the title role of Thelonious. He’s a naturally gifted actor and was born on the same date and month as Monk).
