In another lifetime, I remember that once we were headed for a night of partying. We were on the block and, before we could clear the area, we got pulled over. Three of us. Me, Cookiehead and KP. The usual routine: get out the car, provide paperwork, “do you mind if we search you?” etc. The cops start their pat down of each of us, but it’s not an issue. Nobody’s dirty because the general rule was to empty your pockets before you got in the car. Let them do their frisk and this too shall pass. After they’re done, we’re all sitting on the curb and me and M both notice Kente’s unusually quiet and looking sicker than ever.
Yeah, KP didn’t empty his pockets so he had to swallow the controlled substance.
We went out that night. KP went to the ER.
The point being, we’ve all been in our own sticky situations. And we’ve all handled them rather dangerously, in ways that leave us shaking our heads @ our former self.
As I was coasting through my RSS feeds this morning, I saw Hail Mary’s marijuana-related headline “We’ve Found The Only Way To Die From Weed.” Sounds lighthearted enough right?
Not so.
Just after 2AM Friday deputies responded to a disturbance call at the Executive Inn on front beach road. They say Grande pushed a female friend. A camera crew from Zoo Productions filmed what happened when deputies arrived. When one of the deputies tried to arrest him they say he resisted and stuffed something in his mouth. That’s when at least one of the deputies shot him with a taser. They say he pulled the taser probes out of his body, that’s when deputies noticed he was choking.
Deputies performed the Hiemlich maneuver but could not dislodge the item. By the time EMS arrived, he was unconscious. One of the paramedics pulled a large bag of marijuana from his throat. He was pronounced dead at Bay Medical Center. “It’s a tragic situation for our officers, a tragic situation for this young man and his family. What started out to be a simple disturbance call, could have been handled by compliance by this individual, simply giving the officers the marijuana,” explained Sheriff Frank McKeithen. Obviously, the video is a little disturbing so know that in advance.

You live by the baggie, you die by the baggie.
this is tragic and i believe the cops could have done more and not jumped to the conclusion of tazering him. they should have suspected something when hes pounding on the ground for his life and the cops just watched helplessly. i believe something shal be done or the cops need to always be aware of something like this. having that medical bag sooner than after he is going into and out of contiousness would have been nice. this is horrible to publish this video all over the web, his family didnt want this out on the web. the camera crew or what ever place/thing published this should get tried in court.
