Billboard recently crowned The Neptunes producers of the decade for their assassins work in murdering the charts. While not always agreeable, the publication’s rationale is always a little more grounded & respectable than the average list, seeing as how they take into account chart positions, radioplay and sales among other factors. There will always be arguments, but numbers don’t lie.
To celebrate, Give The Drummer Some put together this The Rest Of The Neptunes compilation, or perhaps “the hits you missed” edition of some of their work.
“Of course you could make the argument that greats like Kanye West, Just Blaze, Alchemist etc. all made their most memorable music in the past 10 years but none have transcended genres and sound like these two have. There was a moment when the ‘Tunes were responsible for over 60% of the music you heard on the radio, ALL WHILE having these genuinely well produced and written side projects that fell under the radar.
We all know the hits, so I’ll spare you. But lets reflect on The REST of The Neptunes.”
For the record, some of their best but unheralded work (or more specifically Chad’s) came with Kenna. If you haven’t listened, backtrack and figure that out. Sample the few songs included here and then dig for the rest. And, hate or love her, Kelis had her fair share of winning tracks with the duo as well.

i would have had a different list COMPLETELY!!!
I take issues with this list, but the Tunes are definite top 2. I’d give it to Kanye personally.
It blows my mind… That was one of the hardest tunes trax ever..off the clones
Doorman in Whip with Subs >>>
no dr dre?
list fail.
Who the fuck is Dr. Luke?
Who the fuck is Dr. Luke?
==============================
Multi-platinum producer/songwriter. He’s definitely a somebody.
Now who the fuck is Jay Electronica?
I honestly think they hit this one on the head. As you can cleary see, the Tunes managed to stay relevant (and major) the entire decade from 00-09. Quite an accomplishment. Dre did it in the 90′s, Kanye met them halfway and others fizzled (looks @ Swizz)
Now who the fuck is Jay Electronica?
====================================
Low blow son.
What blows my mind is where the hell is Famlay at?
I see Lil’ Jon going with the government name to add some credibility when he breaks into the Classical scene with some of the compositions he’s been working on over the last few years
seriously the albums dre has worked on have sold more then anyones this decade.
his work with em and fif and them and his crossover into pop with acts like mary j blige etc.
if dre aint on that list i wanna know why…you cant tell me dr lukes pop tart ass had more impact then dre when 99.9 percent of music heads dont even know who the fuck he is.
didnt kelly clarkston and avril levene put this guy on?
That’s a solid ass tape right there. REAL good shit.
Co-sign Gotty.
Chad’s work with Kenna >>>>
Sorry but their list is pretty spot-on.
im not saying neptunes dont desrve that spot but to put storch on there and omit dre?
I dont give a fuck how spot on cats feel the list is dre should have a spot on that bitch…
storch didnt even have any tracks between 05-09 that i can remember…
@Pago
Famlay’s on there famo.
Dr. Luke started in 05 but got more radio number 1s than anybody else on that list.
Do ur homework.
I would have liked to have seen Just Blaze on there, but yeah, this may be the most accurate list I’ve seen in a minute.
Check D.J. Soulones mix of the Neptunes

@Half
I can see that. But my question is, where is famlay now?
I do not know where Fam-Lay is at, but it is not for a lack of push by Chase and Pharrell. I can tell you that with certainty.
P even came out of his own pocket to shoot “Da Beeper Record” – and Hype filmed the second vid (yes, there was a first) – and he does not come cheap.
That is one thing that I can say about Chad & Pharrell, they are not snakes in an industry full of them.
There may be bigger names (now), but if you want people behind you… sign to Star Trak as a producer run label (and not Bad Boy – take that, take that Puff).
Puff know I don’t like him lol.
TRA:
You should tell that to the LOX; those fools are going back to Puff. All I can say is Fool me once shame on you; fool me twice… lol
Dr. Luke started in 05 but got more radio number 1s than anybody else on that list.
==========================================================
He needs to give credit to Benny Blanco & Max Martin cause they co-produced most of his “hits”.
Jermaine Dupri > Dr. Luke
*straight face*
i dont think dre put in enough work… Not this decade. Eventually more n more trax that he gave up from detox will be sold n show up…but not this deccade… hell, cuz he aint dropped yet
This list is sick especially 05-09!!
Yo who hasnt the Tunes worked with
I think some people in this comment section seem to forget this is going off sales and chart positions and its not a case of a single blogger expressing his opinion about which producer they ‘like more’.
i don’t think anyone really wants to debate how many hits they’ve had. Hottest producers for more than a decade. Conversation OVER!!
As for the mixtape I love how its filled with mostly songs that went under the radar and wasnt destroyed by radio.
Disc 1 … fail at expanding….
Yeah the Neptunes are hands down the best producers bar none. The Kelis track “daddy” is classic though
Reasons that dre doesn’t showed up at the charts cuz, he is legendary not hot
