While one power couple, Matthew and Tina, are apparently headed towards Splitsville, another could be headed down the aisle. The e-streets say that Kanye may soon make Amber Rose an honest woman and slip a ring on her finger. Read the rest of this entry »
The SC crew took the aquamarine and citron accent colors from one of the original Air Trainer SC II models, one of the slept-on (and un-retroed) pairs of Bo’s, and dumped both colors on their new mock-up of the Air Max Trainer 1 to create phenomenal results. Read the rest of this entry »
At the request for more NBA action, here’s a ready-made recap of the week’s highlights nice & bundled in a short video clip. My vote goes to #8 for the acrobatic teamwork or #5, because you simply don’t walk away from being teabagged without mental scarring occurring.
Yesterday morning, it was Mike kickin’ his share of the knowledge on a more cultural level. This morning, prime minister Pill speaks on a social level from the public pulpit.
Often, we speak of tragedy bringing the best out of artists and their music. But never in a million years would I wish death to befall their families for the sake of my listening pleasure. Yet after two hard losses – her grandfather first, then her musical contributor and husband Jason – UK songbird Corinne Bailey Rae stepping back to the stage as she prepares to release her next album, The Sea. The lead single “I’d Do It All Again” finds her back in a wonderful melancholy way, professing her commitment to a relationship. Read the rest of this entry »
I’m a firm believer in the ideal that each time out, whatever you do should be bigger and better than the time before. That’s why it’s always a pleasure to work with and then bring you music from Jack Splash. And while I can’t spill the beans yet, know that Heir To The Throne Vol. 1 was just a starting point. Malice & Pusha sat down with XXL to discuss the advantageous situation of having first dibs on beatwork by Grade-A producers The Neptunes. It’s no different than having Michael Jordan for a dad or a chef for a spouse. Some of life’s little luxuries are yours for the taking and may even have you taking them for granted. If Mos Def’s current Hip-Hop aptitude was practicing karate, he’d be Ralph Macchio. Getting his ass bullied from suburban yuppies before Mr. Miyagi had the chance to teach him a little backbone. Getting swirlies in the toilet and muscled for his lunch money. Read the rest of this entry »
And with Justin Bieber’s video debut on 106 & Park yesterday, the 15-year-old with a following that would make most vets jealous is now one step closer to joining the completely fictional “in-crowd” headlined by Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke. A few months ago I spoke on Bieber and how he seemed primed and ready to become the next pop sensation. Fast forward a few months and the understudy of Usher and Scooter Braun (and Diddy) is well on his way. He’s been on Ellen. He’s been on The Today Show. He’s been on MTV. He’s been on Wendy Williams. And if you’re looking for credibility, he obviously reflects TSS’s sentiments on Rihanna. Lil’ homie even managed to get a kiss out the deal.
It is ironic how a few days after my initial post on the kid, one of my best friends found out he would be Bieber’s official DJ. I’m not sayin’. I’m just sayin’. Obviously, I’m not in the guy’s target demographic and I’d be lying if I said I listened to his music everyday because I don’t. His acoustic music, however, is rather dope. Maybe it’s the fact that I think the majority of acoustic music is hot, but it’s here where I can see the talent A&R’s are going crazy for in board rooms across the country. Hell, John Mayer has already dubbed the kid as a personal favorite of his, so maybe they could do some acoustic work together.
At the very least, I can say TSS co-signed a pop star before he became a mainstream poster boy. If he ever shouts out The Smoking Section in an interview, best believe we’re doing a million hits in a day. That’s right bitches. Gettin’ those pop hits while forever staying true to the code.
Ladies rejoice! The hipster post-modern day rapper finally has a voice laced with estrogen in Kid Sister. Hailing from the Windy City that is Chicago, Melisa Young aims to prove she can make her mark on the rap game without being overly thuggish or bragging about any sort of vaginal voodoo. Her result? Successful in her own zany way due to her debut album Ultraviolet, which is a kaleidoscope of obscure, bubbly Pop with electro true-school flavor. Read the rest of this entry »
Yeah, yeah yeah! You can say whatever but this song is fiya. Whether or not Def Jam failed with promoting it or Rated R properly is completely irrelevant at this point. Our dearest Riri, queen of GQ, is off frolicking in the mud like some ancient civilization vixen only the kings could get their hands on. Strutting around like she’s the commander-in-chief; keeping her soldiers at attention in more ways than one. Read the rest of this entry »
The first time we used the above pic, the song we decided to use it with, the artist’s handlers asked us to pull the track because it was too early for it to be out. Thus, I didn’t get to enjoy the picture. Oh yeah, I love the pic and was waiting for the perfect duo to break it out. Read the rest of this entry »
