If Mos Def’s current Hip-Hop aptitude was practicing karate, he’d be Ralph Macchio. Getting his ass bullied from suburban yuppies before Mr. Miyagi had the chance to teach him a little backbone. Getting swirlies in the toilet and muscled for his lunch money.
“Put ‘em in a body bag Black Jack!”
That’s what the fans scream. That’s what they think they’re getting. Nope. Nada. Nathan. It’s like it almost causes pain to spit an energetic sixteen bars. The lazier the flow, less ice for the knees seems to be the motto.
If this is karate school, his gi would be three sizes too big and he’d come to mat wearing socks. The discipline is long gone. He needs a Sho’Nuff to get him motivated again.

Sweep the leg
==================
LMAO!
I don’t know, I kinda dig this joint.
Mos is all about creating a texture with his flow now. His words are more like a layer of percussion than the feature, which is why I think his vocals sat low in the mix on many of the songs on The Ecstatic (in comparison, Eminem picks basic, sparse beats with his voice up front in the mix so that you can catch his lyrics). I’m not saying I agree with the approach, but I do think that it’s intentional. He’s not just phoning it in, or something; I’m sure he pays his bills off of acting and fronting jazz bands alone.
As for this track: more of the same. Super long hooks, vamps, etc., to create a texture. Nothing especially dope about the lyrics, though. The beat – while a clever chop – ain’t as sick as Casa Bey (which, in my opinion, is Mos’s best effort in experimenting with this new style of MC as accompaniment instead of MC as front man). But, it’s aiight.
I think that’s a fun little joint and coming in under the 2 minute mark, it’s more of a little interlude…put it in the context of one of Mos’ projects that often have a sense of congruency front to back and it works.
this shits dope
Chuck The Truck < Mos Def. Foot Fist Way for the win.
I LIKE
track has a real lupe goldwatch vibe to it minus the quoteables.
i actually thought ecstatic was as quality album and one of the few joints from ’09 that i’ll still probably be listening to next year.
as far as this joint, nothing mind blowing but i dig it. i’m sure it’ll sound a lot better within the context of an album.
this is frikkin awesome
laid back karate school, love it
This song is dope. Mos is on some next level shit with this. I think the dude Keynote comes closest to explaining what he’s doing here.

Well im thinkin the mixtape has the laid back vibe in general, all the tracks i’ve heard so far got the same slow flow. I’m not complainin tho, it’s pretty kool to smoke to.
