Man, I got suckered. I would say obnoxious stuff or make a few wisecracks. Things like how I wish Lupe would come better than this and that weak mixtape he dropped. Free or not, I was not impressed @ all. The delivery was still there, but the clever wit was missing. Take me back to the Fahrenheit-style of attack. This shitty song is off the New Moon soundtrack, hence the wolves and topless boys in the video. Miss me with that “he’s crossing genres and fanbases” talk; this was an iTunes bonus track for a reason. What he’s crossing over into is a drowning cesspool of uninspired music. And if it is authentic & “inspired,” then there’s an acute lack of direction that needs to be addressed.
But Lupe’s an okay guy I guess and, if we say anything too harsh, he may quit rap or whatever. So…nice black gloves guy.

LOL
Topless boy FTL.
I would have given Lu a pass if Japanese Cartoon got billing here.
I expect “them” to suck.
come better than this and that weak mixtape

Why can’t rappers just rap and rap well? Why do they have to explore shit as if they’ve perfected rap? No idea’s original, but it’s the execution that counts these days.
Fuck this hot-topic/mall-rat shit.
CT – I understand people were just “excited” to hear new Lupe again. But fuck that, he could’ve kept it. Tape was weak. and if he drops a lump of coal in my stocking come Xmas time w/his next “free” disc, he’s gonna have some ‘splainin to do.
Gotty
I can’t get down with you on that. The only part of I didnt like about EOTS was that it was only 12 tracks. For real son?! For Real?! You only gonna put 12 on a mixtape?!
what band still had a DJ doing cuts for them? that fuckary is dead, even lincon park broke up. this shit should be off the XXX soundtrack.
@ Gotty: You’re trippin’ with no place to unpack, word to Common. Lupe tape weak?! He fuckin’ MURDERED every beat on that tape, with ease I must say. Still, I can kind of understand your point of view because after he dropped the best album of ’07 (The Cool still rules!) and took a somewhat sporadic hiatus, you probably expected more of him, correct?.
Enemy of the State weak? It was very short, but what part of it was weak exactly, his flow on the songs was on point, and the tape was full of dizzying wordplay. There were no real concrete concepts or anything, but that’s what albums are for.
I can sorta understand where Gotty is coming from…yes, Lupe’s insane wordplay is there…there is also some cleverness to it too…but it just doesn’t compare to his previous mixtapes.
I compare albums w/ albums…and mixtapes with mixtapes…and EOTS isn’t up to par with the Farenheit series.
however…EOTS is good though…maybe as good as No Ceilings (YEAH< I FUCKIN SAID IT)…maybe of Lu coulda fleshed out his “Love Story” a bit more…it coulda topped No Ceilings.
J. Cole’s The Warm Up still trumps those two tapes anyways. :p
sidenote: this song is garbage. NEXT!!!
I was a little let down by his recent tape but I still enjoyed it. This dude is a lyrical genius. But I think he will go harder on the next effort.
…this is completely irrelevant but Barbra Walters just reported that Brett Favre got cut from the Falcons at the beginning of his career. I mean isn’t Barbra Walters a big deal? I haven’t really watched her before but I mean come on. And her voice sucks
Enemy Of The State = Trash.
When you “murder” a Diddy’s Angels beat and the 43-year-old “So Ghetto,” what are you really doing exactly
EOTS was good, this song is monkey balls.
It was not sharp. Period.
Show me a clever line to change my stance and I’ll show you two feeble ones to counter. I promise you, it’ll be like fishing in a barrel for me to find weak lines lol.
I don’t doubt what he’s capable of but nothing about that tape made me feel the need to rewind, left me saying “wow!” or “he ripped that beat!” Not a one. Sorry.
And yes, if you go allllllllllll the way back, I was there early for the first tapes. I know exactly what he’s capable of and I’ve heard what I think is his best.
EOTS was nowhere near it, nor did I expect it to be. I expected “good.”
But it wasn’t even “good.” It was *yawn* okay @ best.
Yeah this song sucks but I predict this will be better than anything from Rebirth.
I hope baby pushes it back till oblivion.
hey….he made that Angels song listenable with Diddy’s screeches and all. That alone is a feat he’s accomplished with that tape.
For what it was worth, it was just Lupe rhyming over other good beats. Whether it’s old or not…hearing Lupe over some Preemo is refreshing. and being a Street Fighter addict, Yoga Flame fueled my stannism.
but I digress…EOTS was rather…good for me. Not bad…not great…good. Hopefully he’ll return to form come X-Mas.
Co-sign Gotty on Enemy of the State. I can’t help but compare it to No Ceilings. You could tell both Lupe and Wayne thought they were being clever throughout there respective tapes. Only thing is Wayne actually was for the majority of his. Lupe was ehh.
I’m a big fan of dude (its hard to be a serious hip hop head otherwise), but I only felt compelled to keep about half the tracks on his joint. Some of it is expectations of course, and I wouldn’t go so far to call it trash, but in my humble opinion his tape was sub-par.
I find some of his earlier mixtape work to be much worse culprits of being laden with corny lines disguised as clever wordplay, but it’s whatever I guess, it’s not it’s one of the top projects of the year or whatever.
I thought the tape was mediocre at first, but it’s grown on me. I think a lot of it was his showing his “rapping ability” vis a vis metaphors, good rhyme schemes, differnet paced flows, etc. I thought his performance on “The National Anthem” was really dope, had some clever imagery working and “Angels” made for a pretty solid extended metaphor/concept.
Plus, TC thought this and Mos’ shit was trash.
So since we know that The Ecstatic was excellent, logic dictates that EOTS must have been pretty worthwhile, no?
:(
The same people who claim The Ecstatic is incredible were hailing Tru3 Magic as the best album of 2007.
Re: Stans
Mos Def could lazily croon The Grapes of Wrath and they would swear that shit was 5 Cigs and innovative.
^ tomfoolery.
I said the other day I always preferred Talib to Mos, but had begun to understand Mos better. The Ecstatic officially won me over, proving that it wasn’t all about Stans. The music was just good.
The Ecstatic has it’s moments, but it’s out there. Not for the casual listener.
I still prefer Talib to Mos. I think Mos is the more raw talent out of the two, but also much more inconsistent and not as accessible as Talib.
You look at the weather channel lately family?
It’s so cold in these streets……how the fuck we ‘posed to keep the peace?
“were hailing Tru3 Magic as the best album of 2007″
such people exist? yikes.
So since we know that The Ecstatic was excellent
:(
man fuck yall
*turns up Shining Down as loud as possible*
I ain’t hearin none of this shit
Lupe is doing his thing. Don’t think he’s experimenting with this sound, he’s been doing it for a long time. LMAO, guy is dropping a rap album and you’re hating on him for not doing more rap like on Lasers?
