The rain drenched streets of New York didn’t stop the heads from coming to Illmind’s Blaps, Rhymes & Life IV event at Santos Party House last Wednesday. With the free beer providing my buzz, I ask Illmind who was hosting the event. He gives me one of those dude head nods in my direction. I replied “Fuck it. I’m down.”
Now without the huge backstory, I’ve hosted events before so we’ll keep it moving. Aside from obviously shouting out TSS and giving away t-shirts, I got to introduce the performers. Illmind’s new artists D-Black and Seer did their thing while Skyzoo rocked “Dear Whoever” for the first time live. Rapper/Emcee and recent Interscope signing Jared Evan performed “Feeling Like A Song.”
Shocker alert: they all performed to Illmind beats.
Director Rik Cordero, known for his Hip-Hop feature films (Nas, The Roots, Rick Ross) flipped the camera in Illmind’s direction to document the night. Many notables in the house came through including 6th Sense, Fresh Daily, Emilio Rojas, and fresh off tour with Jay-Z, DJ Neil Armstrong.
Speaking of DJ’s DJ M-Pos of the Elite Camp and DJ Reason of Nature Sounds held down the beats for the night while cameos by the IRT Crew, DJ Roli Rho (5th Platoon), DJ Paradime (Justus League), DJ Get Live and DJ Fatfingaz solidified that DJ’s love Illmind.
As I jumped out the spot at the end of the night with the rain still coming down, I could easily admit it was a good night. Waking up the next morning with a headache was a story for another day.
