The name Bored Stiff may not ring familiar, but their contributions to Bay Area Hip-Hop run deep. Hailing from San Francisco’s famed Filmore and Haight districts, the original nine man crew developed a sound heavily inspired by Jazz, penning street minded lyrics loaded with wisdom far exceeding their age. They built a movement behind the music, giving listeners music to identify with and a message to believe in. Each show was a celebration of Hip-Hop and more specifically independence from the mainstream. After their debut Explainin dropped in 1995 the group released a handful of projects throughout the years, most of which have become collectors items which can fetch a good chunk of change. Perhaps a story not unfamiliar to Rap, negativity permeated as time passed but the same pride and honor they based their music on prevailed.

Over the past two years the group has been putting in serious work, releasing From The Ground Up and The Sad Truth, and most recently a free downloadable EP Now More Than Ever. Down to three members (Equipto, Mint Rock and White Mic) Bored Stiff stands as strong and potent musically as they ever have. Without abandoning their original formula the trio has found strength in their endurance and are determined to carry the torch for those looking for substance. Boasting eight songs Now More Than Ever features Frisco staples Z-Man and Shag Nasty, as well as cats from Opio and L’Roneous. It’s what hot soup is on a cold rainy day, music to nurture and comfort.
