Dame is stuck in an old business model.
(And why were there around a hundred people doing absolutely nothing in the aforementioned vid? Hope they are not on payroll)

I think if he’s talking all this indie rock stuff he’s going to have to copy more than just their mantras & aesthetic. He’s gonna have to copy their business model, which is real grassroots, hitting the pavement hard on a local level or national level, whichever he chooses.

Not speaking from a grassroots approach – no. He is right… you are a fool if you sign a rock (and all rock sub-genres) act who has not toured on their own, has a core following, etc.
I am speaking strictly of this Dame Dash DD172 complex he is developing. That is a decade old business model. It is about to be 2010. A complex of that stature makes no financial sense to me.
Two recording studios, an art gallery, magazine, and headquarters for Dame’s latest venture CreativeControl.tv?

Two recording studios??? Once Jim Jones, Q-Tip, Raekwon, RZA, Jay Electronica, Pharoah Monch, Billy Danze, Black Keys & Mos find that they are being charged xxx to record there… they are gone.
Personally, I love utilizing multi-million dollar complexes (cannot stand closet studios), but the truth is… with the proper engineer, getting the recording levels right in Pro Tools, you can actually record your vocals in a closet and make it SOUND like you recorded it at a multi-million dollar complex.
Technology.
I do not know of many artists who still record [strictly] at those big studios anymore to be completely honest.
And rock no longer pushes big units. It simply does not. And your white buyer (whom makes you your real money) scoffs at Black execs pushing it – no matter how great the music is.
Everyone has tried his or her hand in it in the Rap/R&B world… yet it never really works.

I just personally think that he is not going to make any money from this new venture.
It just seems like he studied Warhol’s recipe and is trying to make it work in our present day.
And I just do not believe you can do that right now.

I think it’s a New Yorker thing lol.
Financially, it’s wasteful. And pointless in a time where less can create more.
But artistically some of these artists in various regions and certain styles need it in order to feed off each other.
Honestly TRA, if what you say he’s doing is true , then I totally agree. I was just thinkin about 10 minutes ago in the car that Dame spoiled EVERYBODY on Rocafella. From Jay-Z all way down to Peedi Crack. If you took Dame out of the Roc equation , No one would have gotten that boost they’ve got.
Now I’m no fool, I know he was a liability at the Roc too but for every 9 things Dame did wrong, the 1 thing he did right made them successful.

I’m hoping that this place works better than everyone expects it to. I know artists like Jay Elec, Curren$y, etc. are artists who aren’t likely to spend bookoo bucks on studio time when they’ve gone the cheaper route this whole time. Maybe Dame’s giving these guys a discount.
If this facility is what’s needed to put out music like the BlakRoc Project, and Curren$y’s “Life Under The Scope”, I’m all for it.

I’m a huge Dame fan and on the flip side I am a huge Jay fan. I would love to see those two work it out. Just don’t see it happening…
As for Dame I really think he should focus on movies and leave this music alone. he will never ever be able to recreate what he and Jay had… so with that being said like he spoke on Jimmy you have to move on to what’s next. He did a great job with Paid in Full and Death of a Dynasty. I know he has it in him to either produce or write films and I hope he sees it…. there is a void of good young urban movies that he can fill. We need a black harry potter or twilight some shit like that…
maybe he will see this and make that move… and if u do dame I want 5% of the gate and dvd sales.
