Ever since the Jay and Beans fiasco broke the other day, I’ve managed to keep my opinions to myself…at least on the blogging front. Reason being because I honestly found myself on the fence. To Jay’s credit, Beans did have a record label, a promising crew, a clothing line and his first album come within hair length of platinum status. The seeds of success were planted, they just never blossomed. To Beanie’s credit, stories of Jay’s financial infidelities have been discussed ad nauseum. We knew that. Cam put that on front street a long time ago. In the grand scheme of things, I’m sure both parties are just as much right as they are wrong. The realization that hurt the most though? Losing the last sliver of hope (as in .0001%) of seeing that coveted Jay/Beans/Scarface triplet compilation pierces my soul.

I can’t remember where or when it was when I first heard the “rumor” of a collaborative album between three of Hip-Hop’s biggest heavy weights. Truthfully, I knew it would likely never materialize. However, the fan in me always wanted to see it come to life. Hell, I would have taken a leak of studio tracks, a la I Can’t Feel My Face in 2006. It just made so much damn sense when you really sit and analyze the situation.

Jay would have brought the witty wordplay only he could really produce. Beans would have enlightened the world of the ghetto’s plight and pain with every emotional bar he embedded on wax. Scarface, well, we all know his lyrical capabilities. More so than anything, they all meshed well together. Nothing seemed forced. Nothing seemed out of place. And an album littered with production from Kanye West, the possibilities were literally endless.

Keyword: “were.” Seeing as how I’ll never know the entire story of Jay and Beans relationship or the true workings of the music industry, I’m left to leave sorrowful notes such as the one you’re reading at the moment. I always try to keep it music, and for the most part, I do. It just sucks when you realize the music business really is a business and nothing is as it appears.

This really is life, huh?

P.S. In case you need their recording resume’, you know TSS has you covered.
