“The 8th Light…”
GENERAL By Gotty™ on November 21, 2009 at 1:33 pm“Black, my family thick, like they’re striped molasses/Star, on the rise, in the eyes of the masses/Black is the color of my true love’s hair/Star’s are bright, shining, hot balls of air..”
Straight swiped the pic from Va$htie’s abode. No particular reason except I saw it, liked it and the only thing I could hear once I saw it (read that again) was Kweli’s lines from “Astronomy.” I <3 imagery in all its forms.
She wears Cookies so she’s okay by me. The fresh is respected.

Hi Va$htie.
They call me K1NG round these parts, but you can call me Cameron. One day me and you gonna be having a nice dinner at a nice restaurant and i’m gonna make you smile.. And I ain’t talking no Scarface/Tupac shit neither, i’m talking some corny G-Unit type shit.. Believe that..
Just letting you know ahead of time..
I remember hearing that song for the first time. I was a latecomer to rap, starting immediately in my teens. My family is pretty musical and we were all shopping in a record store. I had already heard “Black on Both Sides” and knew “Blackstar” was supposed to be great. I picked it up, and I think I might have grabbed The Coup’s “Party Music” at the same time. As we were leaving Portland on our hour-long drive home, I asked my parents to throw Blackstar in the CD player for a song or two. They obliged and after a minute or so “Astronomy” started playing. I immediately realized it was one of the best musical purchases I had made yet.
