“Show N’ Prove” - Review Of The Undergods’ EP
ALBUM REVIEWS By K1NG on November 3, 2009 at 1:55 pmAfter the success of Slaughterhouse, established acts have seen since been forming like Voltron; teaming up to hopefully swap fan bases. Two of the most recent wordsmiths to create an alliance include The Undergods, which is the combined force of Canibus and Keith Murray.
Their first collaborative self-titled EP find themselves gracing 7 tracks with their signature styles they’ve both been utilizing for over a decade. The opening song “129” features the duo taking turns lyrically blazing through a slick Erick Sermon production with a very familiar sample to carry the hook. The track is packed with plenty of boxing references, foreshadowing the aggressive tone that is carried throughout the project. The piano-laden “Gotta Be Real” springs up midway and is the closest you’re going to come to a laidback melody from these two aggressive New Yorkers.
On “Show ‘Em What Crazy Is,” Tech N9ne shows up to bat clean up and wrecks the last verse of the song, as does Crooked I on the finale “Show N Prove.” The biggest downfall of the venture is the mess of brass that is contained haphazardly underneath the verses of “No Brainer” and the lack of variety on the lyrical tip. Otherwise, The Undergods seem to click well together and definitely pique interest with this short showcase of artistry.

Slaughterhouse was a success? Artistically maybe … but they flopped as a commercial venture.
Artistically MAYBE.
Maybe is the key word there.
Slaughterhouse flopped ? 18k first week. Over 30k now :
label E1, four underdogs, underground hiphop, only raps !
i don’t think it’s a flop for this era (internet/crisis)
obviously the LP is dope, rock the bells tour, tech n9ne tour
probably Eminem as guest on the next album and/or MAYBE more…
that’s a pretty a good achievement for this year wit this album, nah?
let we see the somophore and the third lp, then judge the whole thing
Maybe flopped was too harsh a word … but most artists aren’t seeking only the type of success (i.e. Internet buzz) that Slaughterhouse had. People have to eat. Splitting the proceeds from a 30K album, after promotional costs, leaves nothing. Knowing these thieving record companies I wouldn’t be surprised to find they are in the red. By the way, I am not saying their particular label - just that it would not be out of the norm if they were.
Hopefully eventually art begins to pay commensurate with the work people put in and what others get out of it once more.
I believe they made $20k each (after taxes) from the Slaughterhouse album, couple this with guest appearances on other projects, radio, live show and tv performance, my estimation is that their gross annual income would amount to circa $80k (before taxes) which isn’t bad for a years work.
Not quite Jigga money, but hey they pulling in white collar profesional money, so they can’t squabble, especially within the current climate.

Canibus hasn’t been relevant since Congress was reconsidering the “Draft”…
No brainer is a dope track! The brasses are hot and not messy at all, music ain’t just a suite of basic patterns.
