Come next NBA season, everything that says LBJ23 in your closet will either be collector’s memorabilia or lawn worker’s gear because LeBron is changing his jersey number to #6 to honor Michael Jordan.
“I think no guy in the NBA should ever wear 23…[Jordan] can’t get the NBA logo, much respect to Jerry West, so I think his number shouldn’t be worn by any player in the NBA so I’m thinking about just changing my number next year just to show the tribute of what he did for the game.”
James made the announcement post-game after dropping 34 points on D. Wade’s Heat (despite this monstrosity) while his royal Airness was in attendance, binging on nachos and Miller High Life®. Bron Bron can talk all that “paying homage” garb all he wants. Those jersey sales will read like his base salary once the worldwide tally rings in. It also puts the pressure on any active roster bums sporting the 2-3 to switch it up as well.
Will this prompt them to retire the number all together? Wonder how Mark Aguirre feels about all this? You already know Chamillionaire doesn’t give an “eff.”

That’s a strong move Bron Bron…. even after he buys back all of the jersey’s that are left in stock, he’ll still make a killing in new jersey sales.
he’s just doing this so people will stop bringing up NY
Cha-ching like a motherfucker. Also, I can respect the reasoning he gave w/o questioning the sincerity.
Waits on the impending flood of backlash.
you know, that makes him coming to Chicago a little bit easier. probably won’t happen but hey…..
Props E.
I always thought it was an error to wear 23 in the first place…
Two things:
1.) Im pretty sure if he stays with the Cavs, he has to keep 23. Remember Kobe had to wait a certain amount of time before he changed from 8 to 24. Unless of course…he changes teams….
2.) LeBron will not be wearing 6 because he’s going to sign with the Celtics and that’s the actual GWAT’s (Greatest Winner of All Time) number. Already hanging in the Garden rafters.
Also, I can respect the reasoning he gave w/o questioning the sincerity.
======================================
This is where I am with it.
And I’m with Deen. He shouldn’t have been wearing it from the start.
Whuddup E. Brock. Good lookin on that.
Wishful Thinking Patrick,as much as he is saying winning is more important. He wants the team he choose to play for to show him the money. As far as every team retiring 23; that is a bit much. As great as Jordan is, if we start with his number. The league would have to retire Magic and Bird’s # as well. Without their entry in the league who knew if the NBA would have survived for a MJ to take over. Then you would have to retire George Mikan’s number, the 1st NBA Dominate big man helped the league florish in his day. And I haven’t even mention Bill Russell yet. Let the Bulls retire his number and leave it at that.
Thanks E. Brock… this goes on the external HD via the office computer.
I respect him for the sincerity as well, but he’s also fanning the flames of where he’s going to end up next year.
Pat
1. I thought he changed it immediately after the whole rape fiasco
2. You’re joking, right?
LOL, Bron to Beantown? That’s a new one.
But, I need to hear MJ’s take on this.
Bron Bron in Chi-town… never. That’s an even easier way to compare the two of them. If he’s smart, he’ll stay away from that one.
Boston doesn’t have the cap room to afford Lebron. R. Wallace accepted only a $1 mill contract (per NBA Live), so that shows there.
I dont even know why we are even entertaining a Boston trade…that’s not even realistic. Nor do I think there has been any Chi town talk either, (non-credible talk atleast)
Antoine Walker has a better chance of become Suzie Orman’s co host; than becoming a Celtic this year. Before the Trailblazers signed A. Miller and D.Miles “played” in enough games to have his contract on their books I thought they were a dark horse in the Lebron sweepstakes. They would of had plenty of Cap Room plus a great young nucleus.
LBJ been rockin’ 23 since he was 12 and Jordan had hair, now of a sudden he wanna “honor MJ” with a switch? To quote them blue-eye soul boys:
Say no go.
Bron’s about paper. He sees the opps in branding a fresh number with his own stamp.
And let’s be real: Jordan’s played out. You got a whole generation now who only know Jordan as the old dude that screwed up the Wizards and ran around on wifey with all them white girls and who makes ever-uglier shoes.
Being MJ’s progeny just ain’t fresh anymore.
However, somewhere in Boston, the greatest winner in the history of team sports is sitting there polishing his 11 rings as a player plus 1 as a coach and wondering—in third person: “If changing numbers is how you honor somebody, then how you gonna disrespect Bill Russell like that?
im glad everyone has their wishful thinking of where they want bron to go. but here’s the facts. chicago is not a contender. he hates paul pierce, although he’ll never say it publicly. portland has their own thing goin on and would have to sacrifice half the team to get bron(sign&trade). miami doesn’t have a fully competitive team to contend outside of wade(who may leave for chicago himself). and finally, the nets and knicks fuckin suck.
now one may say i’m being delusional in hoping he stays here in my city. but the nets are always hurt and super young. so they are not a contender and ready to win. the knicks are always terrible and super young. and MIKE D’ANTONI DOES NOT WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS. so unless something major happens with those teams to improve it’s surroundings. it’s very likely you’ll be picking up your new number 6 james in cavaliers wine and gold.(or the white or blue or hw classic)
he shld keep it///love the lebron
what ongaku said
Right?!? Retire 23 because it`s MJ`s number only to use 6 which so happens to be Bill Russel`s number? C`mon Man!!!
