Remember When Ice Cube Died?
AUDIO By Gotty™ on November 1, 2009 at 10:14 pmIt was ten o’clock at night on an average day in 1991.
Not literally of course. But the cinematic presentation by the Hon. O’Shea Jackson on “Alive On Arrival” is as intense as anything seen or heard since.

Thanks for the publicity!
Death Certificate >>> AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted
I got onto West Coast hip-Hop kinda late, but Death Certificate influenced every great Gangster Rap album that came after it.
“True to the Game” >>>
R.I.P. Mike Beck
Ice Cube = Top 5 Dead or Alive.

I thought this was an Anaconda clip..
Imaging if he’d have taked the Odog role in Menace.
@ AmpGeez… agreed, but I wish Death Certificate would have been even more influential. Instead, we got way too many lazy gangsta acts that too often just wanted to cash in on NWA/Geto Boys’ shock value.
@ young_
Which is exactly why I said…
“…every great Gangster Rap album that came after it.”
The anger/violent imagery without the social/political commentary behind it is basically just a buncha cats poppin shit.
Bootlegs and B-side was my shit! Plus I loved the song “cave bitch”…
This album = DOPE
Really… Cube blew my mind with this album.
Death Certificate >>> AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted
for sure…this album played out in my head like a movie when i would listen to it.
brilliant fucking album.
My Summer Vacation is a great example of hearing a movie! I can see every clip in that song. It’s my favorite joint. I never needed a video cuz I got one in my head.
Man I wish I wasn’t born in the 90’s *thinks of what could of been, if I was born in 1980*

Argue?
Ain’t no argument to be had. Cube > All things.
“I told the nurse i was getting warm. Bitch still made me fill out the form.” LMAO!
man i fell in love with this dude when i was 14 man this guy is so underrated on a level that yeah hes good but do you hear what he is sayin. the kicker is my ass is only 19
I hold this up as the greatest rap album of all time, lyrically it’s superb – uncompromising, the sequencing of the album is perfect – each track just feels like a natural progression from the previous one, the ‘Death Side’ and ‘Life Side’ themes are executed beautifully (he had the nous to have his cake and eat it with that concept – you can produce half an album’s worth of ignorant music under the pretext that it forms half of a concept album exploring positive and negative stereotypes)…..and musically I can’t name another album that sounds like it AND on top of that it still sounds fresh.
It’s the sort of work form a major artist that you just wouldn’t get now, intellectually challenging, scathing, impassioned….there’s not enough superlatives to do it justice.
But never in the history of recorded music – scratch that – ENTERTAINMENT, has anyone fallen off as hard as Cube did, and as a long term fan it pains me greatly to say that.
This is when the nail was put in the coffin

and yeah death certificate>all other left coast gangster albums
If you lived in LA at the time you will remember the real world uproar this song caused.
Medical staff and administrators at MLK were on the news along with politicians blasting Cube for the negative portrayal of the hospital.
Fast forward a decade and the hospital (Killer King) had it’s emergency services shut down, lost it’s accreditation and had multiple videos surface showing people actually dying in the waiting room waiting on service.
Add this to the fact that this album predicted the 1992 riots that occurred one year later and you have the most politically, socially, and culturally significant album in music post 1969…. aside from being a HipHop masterpiece.
