wale-x-nike-boots

If you ask Gotty ™ about Wale, he’ll be sure to tell you that he’s been a fan since the kid was kicking freestyles in fifth grade or something.

Me? I was late. I didn’t become a fan until Wale dropped “The Kramer.” It was his ability to take a topic (the “N” word) that was being run to the ground by every rapper with a pulse at the time and add an emotional layer to it that few could put in their songs.

Attention Deficit is full of “black girl lost” tracks. While these tracks usually get skipped with a quickness in my iPod, Wale was able to captivate me on almost every one of those songs. And there was something about “Diary” that made me keep it on repeat for damn near an hour:

“Queen, you deserve the title but
She rejects what I give
While she nurses the wounds by them
Try them, didn’t work
Got impossible standards
Nothing I’m a do is gonna work
Diary of a Black girl”

I swear, if Mr. Folarin where anywhere near me I’d give him a high five and buy him a Red Stripe for that one.

When I rule the world, every ex-boyfriend that ever screwed over a girl will have to get kicked in the ‘nads by the girl’s new boyfriend every time she gets weirded out and wants to be alone because she’s “having some issues.” Yea, Mr. Ex, it’s because of you that she doesn’t feel comfortable making me a buffalo chicken sammich with extra ranch like she used to make for your sorry ass.

“I’m just trying to be the one that never run
But you run away from me
…She can’t see in me what I see in her
This pain she inherit can’t be reversed.”

And another thing. It’s your fault that when I brought baby girl a bouquet of flowers from my local 7-11, all she could think about was that time you two were walking through a meadow and you told her she looked “frumpy.”

It’s also your fault that I cry after sex and can only perform while Anita Baker or “A Goofy Movie” is on in the background.

Ok…that last one may not be anyone’s fault.

I may have said too much…I’ll let Wale take it from here.
