They Say (get it?) this soulful gem was meant for Finding Forever (a.k.a. Common’s 2nd best album–yeah I said it before.) I say they most likely didn’t get to clear the Nina Simone sample.
Either way, with Common, ‘Ye and John Legend planting seeds on the same track = a ripe and blooming orchard full of food for thought or candy on-the-go. Just so happens this leftover was meant for archival consumption.

Download — Common Feat. John Legend – “Strange Fruit” (Produced By Kanye West)

yo strange fruit is a reference to lynching…making your second paragraph weird and offensive.
Do i dare ask what his first best is? Oh and by the way
1)Like Water For Chocolate
2)Resurrection
3)Be
4)One Day It Will All Make Sense
5)Electric Circus
6)Finding Forever
7)U.M.C.
8)Can I Borrow A Dollar
and don’t get it twisted I’m not one of these jump on the bandwagon when “the light” came out fans. I been down since “Soul by the Pound” (thump remix preferably)
Cassidy ended up using this joint.
@ GRANDfathercloc
How is it humanly possible that Electric Circus is better than 4 Common albums?

ya’ll front on electric because ?uestlove says he is “in love” on that record but besides the very last track what was wrong with that album? really i have never heard someone truly answer that question. Electric was nothing but an extension of “like Water for Chocolate” but because his image look a little more far out he gets dissed for “Electric” come on. From tracks two to eleven you can’t say this didn’t go hard. I am more a beat head than lyrics even tho i check for both and TC you can’t tell me that “SONICALLY” electric is not better than the ones i put before it. As a side note my biggest problem was that “Electric” was too short and if anything it failed because it came off like an “i’m doing this to finish my contract album” which makes since because MCA folded that following year but that doesn’t mean good albums don’t come from that. For example look at “Bulletproof Wallets” not “Supreme” but an extension of it and a solid album.
@TC i still am waiting on what is the second best???
@TC I mean first best
@GRANDfathercloc: Sir, I do believe you should click on the “said it before” link if you want the answer to your question. Just a suggestion.
1. BE
2. Like Water For Chocolate
3. Finding Forever
4. Resurrection
5. One Day It’ll All Make Sense
6. UMC
7. Can I Borrow A Dollar
8. Electric Circus
@GRANDfathercloc Im the biggest Com fan but I can even sit through Electric Circus…
i saw the said it before and now i have to question her picks and when she first got into common, but hey opinions differ. (but “be” first) HHMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. Be – classic from all angles. classic rating in xxl and well received by his fans and the critics. kanye really pulled off some shit on this one that he may never duplicate and common sounded reinvigorated.
2. Like Water for Chocolate – if i were a huge common fan this would probably be my overall favorite, but that’s not the case. i’ve seen him live and he puts it down (best believe dat), but i’m more of a mos def guy. anywho…this one is solid from front to back, just not sonically cohesive as Be.
3. One Day It’ll All Make Sense – great fucking album. he was still learning how to make an album still, but he did kill it w/ the features and there are a number of classic songs on it. you can’t tell me for all the sensitivity of the song/video that Retrospect for Life didn’t move you. very emotional record. wish we had more music/videos like it out today.
4. Resurrection – disclaimer: can I put the large pro remix on here instead of the o.g. resurrection? if i do that then this beats electric circus. also there’s the fact that I Used to Love H.E.R. is on here and it has to come before Electric Circus. decent album, just not one of my personal favs.
5. Electric Circus – this is the first common album i bought (believe it or not). so i guess it holds a special place w/ me. that being said the soul aquarians put it down sonically on this bischk! add that to the fact that common is very introspective and sensitive and it makes for a dope album imo. i actually like new wave believe it or not. very cohesive effort and it would’ve been a lot higher on here, but we all know how it was received from his core fans to the critics.
6. Can I Borrow A Dollar – some people actually think this is better than one or more of the aforementioned albums. really? *deadpan*
Oh shit I forgot finding forever and u.m.c. i put ff after one day and u.m.c. after resurrection.
@tru school i feel you accapt everyone seems to have hesrd something totally different than i did on “Be” or maybe it was how much promotion that was put into that album but there is no way be was better than “chocolate.” I say this from another perspective than everyone on here because i watched (and heard) his development from the beginning and “Be” was a step down from where he was going. Let me say this imagine if in the progression of Outkast they CRAFT (and i say that with authority) a new album the way they approached their first album… It will probably be good cause of who they are but its not advancing them as an artist. The same thing with Common, “Be” was a dumming down of him and yes he gained more fans so plenty will say “Be” is the best but this is where i advise they ya’ll go to class. A more accepted album doesn’t make it great. You all may need a few more years to listen to some of these records before proper judgement can be made. Think of some one seeing Eddie Murphy for the first time in Nutty Professor and thinking that was him at his best when never really seeing 80′s Eddie………..
i feel you homie. i’m really not a common aficionado so i can’t say that i noticed his progression or growth as an artist as much a someone who followed him through his whole career. i can say that i enjoy his music and lyrics a great deal though. i think kanye had to find a way to make him relevant again after even his own fans kinda turned on him after Electric Circus. a lot of people has forgotten about him or counted him out.
*have forgotten. i’m on that new ugk remix – turkey got me dizzay. lol
no doubt at least your honest most would swear up and down they been hardcore fans for years
