Your Brief A3C Perfect Attendance Recap: Night Two
GENERAL By MZ on October 3, 2009 at 6:20 pmJust to reiterate what Gotty said yesterday, if you weren’t @ The Five Spot Friday night, it was your loss. It’s crazy what a difference a day can make, but the place was packed out. How packed? Full capacity packed for a couple of hours. So packed that they cut off access to the VIP section behind the stage. Not that I’m Hollywood or anything, but I do like taking advantage of the bar with easier access & sitting down for a few minutes every now and then. Earlier in the night I had been talking with Sabzi from Blue Scholars about what I liked about A3C so far. And my response was that I liked seeing the progression of the artists, specifically the ones I met back at SXSW.
Take Donnis & Curren$y for example. When we first met Donnis in Austin, he was sorta just hanging around with his manager, bright-eyed and being introduced to the scene. Fast-forward to now and he’s built a nice little buzz with his mixtape and he’s not so wet behind the ears anymore.

As for Spitta. He’s still Spitta, but to see the way he’s grown as a performer is just short of amazing. During his show in Austin, he was just rapping on top of recorded songs. Now dude owns the stage. Every movement he made had a purpose and despite his affinity for cannabis, he didn’t flub a word until he closed out his set with “Elevator Musik.” He got a little overwhelmed by the crowd which had been going line-for-line with $pitta for a solid four songs.
I wasn’t too familiar with Yelawolf before tonight, but dude is a trip. If he hadn’t been pointed out to me before he went on, I woulda just thought he was a random dude at the bar. He even went on stage at the wrong time, drink in hand, and was ready to rock until the host let him know that he’d jumped the gun. But when he did get on, he was a high-energy yet controlled performer, going from frantic moves to slow motion stand stills at the drop of a dime. And from what I heard, this wasn’t even his A-Game, because he didn’t have his backing band with him.

^ Rough footage by Gotty™. Watch for the polished presentation later.
Mikkey Halsted (or “Hustle” as the host mistakenly called him) brought a little bit of gravity to the evening by dedicating his set to Derrion Albert and the violence in Chicago period. With the city & media still bummed out on losing the Olympic bid, it was nice to see someone focused on what was really important. He dropped a little bit of knowledge and the crowd was on his every word as if he was telling them to “drop it low” or something.
The final show tonight will be no drop-off as J. Cole, UNI, Hollyweerd, Diz Gibran, Rockwell Knuckles, El Prez, TiRon and more will be blessing the Perfect Attendance stage @ The Five Spot. If you’re near here, you should be there or be considered square.
As a little extra, here’s an all-encapsulating recap from Night One. More individual footage to come but this, this will show you how fast-paced & full the shows have been going.

Gotty’s Notes — Big shouts to Mic Terror, who Drew @ FSD has be continually biggin’ up for a while. I’m a believer. Firm shoutouts to Chip Tha Ripper too, who had the crowd rocking along word for word. Looks like CuDi may have been right on what he told us months ago. The Primeridian duo did the damn thing — even going so far as to incorporate a horn solo & off-the-dome free — as well so respect to them.
Extra shoutouts to Mike, Rapper Pooh & tall-can man Joe Scudda for stopping through & showing support.
Video footage: The SP Agency. Remember that name.

I think somebody got their snotbox rocked outside the place lol. I missed it b/c I walked out right after.
Shouts to Pill who interrupted one of my smoke breaks with tension & comedy by clean cussin out a security guard.
Yelawolf = night & day b/w person & stage performer. Cuz was mellow as fuck when we were choppin it up outside. Then with stage mode came beast mode & dude straight went wild w/it. Watch for the footage, including cursing out one of our attending photogs for the camera’s flash going off in his eyes lmao.
So y’all are actually working? lol
Sounds & looks like a great event too.
Why hell yes sir. why wouldn’t we be lol?
Yo, wifey is tired after two days of A3C so we are just going to stop through to see UNI and J. Cole tonight. I’d like to request footage of Stanza, Hollyweerd and TiRon.
You know I’m just fucking witchu G-Man.
I know The Crew is always working.
I’d like to request that TSS’ers in the building make themselves known lol.
Catch me lightweight twittering @ http://twitter.com/JohnGotty
No sleep til Ohio… & I’ll be in the black crooks shirt w/ the angel on it.
million thanks to the TSS fam..
saw some of the 5 spot…it was cool……..best shit was in East Atlanta tho…..I think y’all actually missed out on some of the best shows, but hey I understand that you were there for business
Enjoy yourselves, fellas.
Yeah, I went to all three nights and that shit was pretty live, minus a couple strange moments.
i.e. The promoter cut the sound on local artist, Gripplyaz, the crowd went nuts, and the host promptly screamed on those responsible for cutting his homie off, backstage, then quit. LOL.
And just after the show tonight, Truck North got into it with some unknowns, and he let them KNOW that they were ‘unknowns’. Then one of Truck’s homies, stole on the main loudmouthed character after he taunted him. LOL.
Good music, cool vibe, and I found that I have a good amount of music to catch up on, but I think I’m hip hopped out for a day or two… ;o)
Promoter didn’t cut grip off. That moshpit he started on stage blew out the equipment. They also stomped some of my equipment. But they blew the sound out. That’s why the tech crew had to set up again. Grip was actin out. We fully support dude. He’s on the bill and the mixtape. But everything that happened tonight was of his making.
I saw Kaos, Killer Mike and Rakim.
Surreal.
And I still got to catch Diz and J. Cole. I’m good.
@Gotty, hope you all caught up with Rakim for an interview session!
Yeah, we did actually.
He had a light beaming behind him @ all times. I think it’s an indication of something biblical. Or maybe not.
^ Smoking Session with The God….? Definitely looking forward to that!
Couldn’t make it to the show…damn but the duck down showcase was hot as well. torae/marco polo , skyzoo/ ninth wonder, kidz n the hall. and buck shot held down the other venue. preemo last night was amazing. the festival was a good look. chicks were out and about because of clark’s homecoming.
That Scudda, Pooh, and Chaundon performance on Friday (though mad late) was dope as well.
Shout to TSS, Yela and the dude Bem Joiner
BRING THIS EVENT TO NASHVILLE!!!! And dont forget to download the mixtape at Bigdreamzco.blogspot.com. Hopefully i’ll be on that stage next year! Best event I attended this year shouts to the TSS folx
Props to TSS SMKA & Fadia Kader for a job well done. Spent most of A3C at the Five Spot and definitely feel like hip hop is alive and well. In a time when it seems like plenty of folks give a fuck about nothing, it’s clear to me that hip-hop artists and writers give a fuck about the music. Much love to my new TSS homies. I miss you guys already. The hardest part of A3C ending is watching errybody go home. :(
One Love

Ahhh Curren$y fucking up, that shit was genuine though. I actually appreciate him messing up like that lol. Looks like it was a good time.
yo i was the white dude in the jamal anderson jersey who approached yall after the currensy set. glad yall did this round up. great night for hip hop in atl
I think you guys are missing one main dude from friday night who killed that stage more than anyone, and that STALLEY!
If you guys don’t know who that is by now stop sleeping cause he’s one of the up and coming talents that should be on everyones radar.
I understand this is a brief review but u fail to mention one of the stand-out acts of the night. What happened to Stalley? Be trend setters Smoking Section instead of riding artist already on a wave cuz he killed that no questions.
AND stalley from Ohio, see people act like they don’t know but they really know smh
