It took me awhile to find out about Wiz Khalifa, and even longer to accept his music. Once I figured out how to pronounce his name, though, I realized I still couldn’t dig the flashiness from this relatively unheralded Steel City native, period. There’s just something about dude’s pistol-packing, pricey pastel gear, layered chains and cheap claims of throwing money in the air that left the 23-year-old’s aura on the shelf with Pucker and Hot Damn! I just didn’t buy it.

I can no longer deny the rap-hop techno fusion and upbeat delivery the Pittsburgh Prince delivers on records like this new joint, “This Plane,” and most of his songs in general. It’s feel good music and with tough times seemingly going nowhere, what the boy Wiz provides is entertainment that lifts the spirits in more ways than one. Fine by me.

Now, if that had only been the case three years sooner…
