Weezer Meets Weezy…
DIGITAL NEWS By Beware on October 24, 2009 at 3:47 pmI almost crashed on I-94 the day my buddy told me he was reading an MTV News headline that noted Lil-jailbound-Wayne was making a guest appearance on the new Weezer album, Raditude. I thought it was actually pretty hilarious, because I know so many longtime fans of Weezer who boycott their new music in hopes they’ll revert to their less mainstream – circa-1996 – sound.
Instead, they’ll get “Can’t Stop Partying” with Weezy Wee making drawn-out puke noises over a Jermaine Dupri beat.
If that’s not bad enough, read this quote from frontman Rivers Cuomo and tell me he doesn’t sound like a down right nerd, whose never been outside the burbs and is desperate for a hit song.
“Any other rapper would’ve just done, ‘Yay, we’re partying! Let’s drink and have fun,’” Rivers told MTV. “But [Wayne] gave it the edge I was looking for. You can hear in his voice, it sounds so dark, like he was gonna get shot or something when he walks out of the studio.”
Rivers probably would’ve been real caught off guard had he called Gucci Mane, instead.

Oh wee-ooh, I look just like Buddy Holly Oh, oh, and you’re Mary Tyler Moore I don’t care what they say about us anyway!
Weezer are bomb diggedy, unfortunately, I can’t say the same about Lil Wayne.
^
Yeah “Buddy Holly” is a dope song. These guys have been around forever though. ‘96 was like 8th grade…
@ZM, what happened to your name man, it run into Fenster?
Interrogation Cop: What are you saying?
Fenster: I said he’ll flip you.
Interrogation Cop: He’ll what?
Fenster: Flip you. Flip ya for real.
You sticking to ZM or will you be reverting back to MZ?
But anyway, yeah, Weezer been around for a minute.
I agree they need to go back to their roots, I don’t mean in a Alex Haley or Tariq Trotter sense either.
They need to get back to the freshness with their sounds, and this Lil Wayne collab is just a gimmick.
island in the sun and perfect situation. Fin.
nah Paw, I be on so many computers & it was just saved in there like that.
Does anybody else wonder what Lil Wayne and Lauren London’s kid is gonna look like?
There is something horribly wrong with this…
weezer’s first two albums were great
Ugh. I’m a huge Weezer fan and while I don’t boycott their new music, I don’t really listen to their new shit that much.
This is painful.
dope nose is another good one. and we are all on drugs is a great one.and of course their earlier work too.
El scorcho is my jam.
That’s a very Timbaland-esque synth on this track, Rivers Cuomo is known for dissecting the work of other pop maestros and incorporating their sound into his – but this is fucking trash. It’s such a transparent, cookie cutter bit of music, adhering to a formula so rigidly that the fun’s been stripped out of it. It reminds me of the track Wu Tang did with Scottish AOR group Texas in the late 90s – anyone remember that? of course not, because it too was a solid gold turd.
“anyone remember that? of course not, because it too was a solid gold turd.”
LOL
that blue album was one of the greatest albums of all time. this song is the worst, at least wayne has no autotune and a couple of good lines. oh man how far can you fall. this year off is only going to help wayne, so long as it doesnt turn into more years for all his other charges.
this year off is only going to help wayne
