It’s always tough to admit when you’ve made a mistake, especially when you’ve had chances to redeem yourself on a weekly basis. Regardless, when you finally do realize your mistake, it is best to confess it rather than go on acting like you never made it.

I slept on Pill’s music.

Sure, I checked “Trap Goin’ Ham” and noted his affiliation with Grind Time, but outside of that I never truly gave the Pink City native the amount of attention he deserved. His performance at A3C was the first alarm to try and wake me, but instead of following up on my intention to listen to 4180: The Prescription, I hit snooze like a fool.

Thankfully, Pill’s continuous hard-work has forced me to open my eyelids ears, allowing me to finally take my seat on the bandwagon in between my fellow TSS brethren and the staff of the New York Times. The video for his song “Glass” off his upcoming mixtape 4075: The Refill is now a contestant to get burn on MTVu and definitely deserving of a win. The content is raw, his flow is immaculate and the video is beautifully shot. The combination of skill, attitude and intention expressed in “Glass” (posted here for your visual perusal) makes it a no-brainer to come out victorious. However, without support from the online Hip-Hop community, it might take an L to some tambourine playing, Fall Out Boy-esque group like Hotspur.

In the end, Pill is going to continue to expand his fan base with or without the MTV co-sign, but considering his mixtapes are free, it’s the least we could do as a supportive audience. Now, go forth to www.mtvu.com/music/the-freshmen/nominees-101909 and vote.

In the meanwhile, here’s a little live footage of Pill performing “Glass” @ A3C, filmed by none other than Motion Family.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some catching up to do.
