Today’s Timewaster: Timbaland’s Beaterator (ll)
AUDIO By S.Cadet on October 3, 2009 at 10:22 amNo, it’s not a long lost cousin to the shake weight.
Instead it’s a hip-hop game/app made for the iPhone and PSP. Rockstar Games hired Timbaland as the front man for this enterprising project. Aside from getting paid, Timbo produced some sounds exclusive to the program that users can manipulate to their heart’s content. It’s designed to be relatively easy to pick up but also packs some advanced features like pitch shift, time stretch, and voice recording. There hasn’t been any confirmation on Autotune making an appearance but early signs point to no. Don’t fret, you could turn to T-Pain’s app if you’re aching for some portable auto-crooning.
Aspiring beat makers can upload and share their beats from the game to Rockstar’s Social Club. I’m not sure if it’ll let you export songs like more fully fledged programs or have as big of an impact as something like FL Studio. Beaterator doesn’t seem like it’s aiming towards that crowd anyway. If anything it looks like a decent program to mess around with when you’re bored. The PSP version is out now and the iPhone version will launch later this year.
Not a bad idea… but c’mon Timbo, you guys couldn’t have thought of a better name? Maybe Beat Club (ll)… scratch that, keep it like it is.

So that’s where Jay Electronica’s been - Maybe he’d like to tear himself away from his toys and go make some ACTUAL music…
Props for the Trigger The Gambler album in the stray shots, there’s some absolute classics on there.
