Snoop Dogg Feat. The-Dream - “Gangsta Luv”
AUDIO By K1NG on October 7, 2009 at 9:36 amSome select artists seem to constantly find ways to maintain relevancy in the music business, no matter how many candles are on their cake. For the most part this is found in other genres: Bob Dylan in Country or AC/DC in Rock, et. al. But some veterans in Hip-Hop can achieve the same results. One of the most prevalent MC’s to have this attribute is Snoop. I have a feeling that when he’s 65, he’ll still be rocking the mic. Oxygen tank filled with marijuana fumes fueling his rhymes, and a 20-something R&B act providing the chorus, Mr. Broadus will still have the teeny-boppers dropping it like it’s hot in 2036.
“Gangsta Luv,” his latest venture into the pop music arena, is a synth-filled, club-inspired collaboration with The-Dream and his catchy hook writing ability that is sure to take over your radio stations by Halloween. Snoop’s flow is so smooth that what he’s saying is irrelevant; it’s still going to keep your attention. This, mixed with his larger than life persona, is a perfect combination for someone looking to be a radio mainstay. Truthfully, I love it when a Snoop single drops just so I can hear an MC in my top 20 spit in between the barrage of sub-par rappers that the majors try to push on us. This song is no different and forces me to anticipate his upcoming album Malice In Wonderland much more than I thought I would.

As an extra, listen to Snoop’s collabo with Crooked I “Guess Who’s Back” off Crook’s upcoming Mr. Pigface Weapon Waist EP.

dope track. snoop = continuity in person. for so many years he’s on top of the rap game.
That is how Snoop does it… constantly changing his sound but staying current… Sexual Eruption was the peak of that but this is on that “Signs” type.
Club hit on the horizon
Snoop’s in your top 20??!!
Great write up, K1NG.
It’s impossible for Snoop to become irrelevant. I’m convinced.
Bob Dylan is folk btw.
Also, I could easily make a list of 20 better MCs than Snoop.
Also, I could easily make a list of 20 better MCs than Snoop.
======
And I bet majority of those “better MCs” aren’t as relevant as Snoop has been for the last 15+ years.
lol @ bob dylan in country, and ac/dc being relevant
SNOOP YOU SOUND WACK BUT IF ITS THE MONEY THEN GET IT GET IT SHIT IS WACK HONESTLY
Yeah Nigga! Keep It Gangsta!!
@Pago. Make sure that list includes MC’s that have just as many hit as Snoop, and been in the game just as long. Also these mc’s should have contributed to the evolution of hip hop as Snoop did. Also set trends and grind just as hard. If you list just includes mc’s that have just lyrics, I have a list like that too. Basicly I want a full package artist not just one aspcet of the business of selling records and selling out areans.

20 better mc’s than Snoop? Don’t hate cause he been around, Snoop could be retired right now and he would easily make the top 20 all time greats based off the fact he’s been around this long in a tough business shows his skill! Come on i hate when fans do this, jump on and off bandwagons andwon’t to crown dudes that been out for 2 years the greatest of all time. Rap is like a sport and you don’t get the crown till after some years of experience it take 7-10 years in the rap industry these days to make a top list unless you tupac or Biggie come on and we all know they would be still ripping it if we wasn’t ripping it
@Pago You don’t know what you’re talking about. Snoop is one of the best to do it. Past & present. Top 5 easily.
@Pago In fact make that top 3 because Snoop is better than 2Pac..
Panthro Whoa…Thunder Puss!!
But no disrespect but SNOOP is NOT in the TOP 3 nor in TOP 5 artist. I mean, the Dawg keeps tha masses wanting more for the amount of years he’s been in it,Club hit after Club hit.
But NOT top 5 bro,
IMO
To much ILL Mc’s man …TOO much !
But again …No disrespect to you and your Opinion.
Yikes
ayo dream….stick to producin’
and writing.
wonder when the pic was taken
yeah baby!
Snoop Dogg is arguably the Greatest Rapper of All Time, more than 15 years in the game, probably more popular than Obama, shocked he could still embarrass Nipsey, Wayne on the mic! I think Snoop been outdone Pac and Biggie already…to be the undisputed Greatest of All Time.
You folks need to mention a rapper that has been in the game longer than snoop, with half his relevance in today’s hip hop, half the appeal he’s got, half the international acclaim he’s got…This Nicca snoop’s selling arenas overseas like he’s Michael Jackson! Gangsta Love just killed d radio again…..a sure trail blazer!
No matter what people say or do, If you hate the D-O-double G he will make you like him his smooth flow and rhymes.
Top 20? Try top 5.
