Status Check: $50,000 In The Bank
DIGITAL NEWS By MZ on October 22, 2009 at 10:57 amRemember Public Enemy’s push to drop a fan-funded album? In two short weeks, the band has already raised over $50,000 towards the recording of their new album with SellaBand. Meaning over 700 fans believed enough in them to put their money where their mouth was and pony up $25. At this juncture, Chuck, Flav & Co. are 1/5 of the way towards their goal of $250,000 and could reach it by Christmas if they & their loyalists keep up the pace.
If you’ve got an extra $25 laying around and want to make some history… head over to Sellaband and check it out. I think I’m gonna hold onto my duckets a little longer and continue to watch from the sidelines.

Old school acts don’t sell anymore. Wu-Tang did nothing, Q-Tip did nothing (Awesome CD), Mos Def nothing (Rap album of the year says DIddy), MF Doom does nothing, LL hasn’t sold in a minute either. With that said, do you really expect a hit from PE??? Doubtful, to say the least. It might be quality, but that’s doubtful as well. How can one respect Flav preaching fight the power after letting himself be called a “flying monkey” at his roast??? What would they rhyme about? Flav sold out, we have a black president and things are as bad in the burbs as they are in the hood. Radio plays more “urban music” than rock, so I have noooo idea what the subject matter is going to be. Maybe Chuck will rhyme about going to Arizona on OUR dime.
I’d pony up if Freddie Gibbs decided to do this…
I’m going to join in…. they should sell album credits with this donation, so that maybe everyone that contributes gets their name in the album notes… that would be dope.
@ Gotty, or anyone else on the TSS staff, if you could somehow forward that little idea to P.E. that would be great. I’ll let them have that one for free.
Hey Jay nobody expects a hit from PE.Thats real.
Now I gotta question for you: Whats your problem ?, I mean , really whats good? HAHAHAHA!!
Deen beat me to it, but it more about exploring more avenues to creae music. Sale won’t matter if they don’t have to recoup recording costs. Replace Public Enemy w/ Freddie, Pill, Nipsey or someone else & I might pony up.
Not saying this will be anywhere near as big, but PE was one of the first to be big on MP3’s as well.
I call it breaking new ground for rap & that’s why it’s important.
I wouldn’t pay for a new artist on their first album. But I’ll consider it on a new artist’s second album. I’d want a reliable third party holding the donations & a refund for every week they were off on the release date.
You know how much an egg on Terminator X’s Ostrich Farm sells for?
Around $300 dollar per egg.
Norman should give one ostrich egg to each fan who coughed up to finance this project.
You know it makes sense!
But make mine a fully grown ostrich, jeah!
Ostrich >>>>>Maybach.
I’m not even gonna waste time googling any of that lol.
I am mad he called Terminator X Norman.
I am mad that my dedicated Baby Paw post reader had the day off today
I am mad that this winter Baby Paw will be rocking an Ostrich down goose jacket.
Good for PE, they see that the old model of doing business hasn’t worked in a long time and instead of moaning about it are trying to find/create a new model.
@Gotty, actually I stand corrected, Terminator X has now reduced the price to $40 dollar, per egg. That’s a bargain right there.
You ever heard that saying, you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs?
Oh yes you can! One ostrich egg will make an omelette that can feed up to 9 people, for rilla.
Telling you man, Terminator X is making some serious cash up in that farm.
BTW, He Got Game was a pretty solid album, heavily slept upon, some great production on it by D/R Period.
Paw be wildin’ lol
wow @ X owning an ostrich farm…
I contributed when TSS posted about this a little while back.
