So President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize and haters began sucking their teeth…again.
Something about this man winning does not sit well with most folks. Granted, it is a tad bit early in the day to be putting this man in the same ranks as Nelson Mandela and The Dalai Lama. But whatever happened to positive outlook or at least objective discussion?
My two pennies on the matter: the man has done more to promote peace and democracy in his short tenure than most of us have done in their lives. His impact has been undeniable, his consistency(as far as peace is concerned) is indubitable, and his positivity is inspiring.
Is he a “bad choice” for a Nobel Laureate? Not at all. Is he the right choice? I’ll need to review the other submissions.

@Contra, I think it is too early to pass judgment on Obama. I’m happy for him in that they bestowed him with the Nobel title, I really do hope that he brings a sense of peace during his tenure.
At the moment he is still straightening out the mess left by the previous administration, and it is gradually getting there.
Another area that the Obama Administration (and the rest of the world leaders for that matter) should push heavy is, energy efficiency and cutting down on carbon emissions.
If we don’t act now, then our children and their children will pay the ultimate price.
I’m sorry to sound like a tree hugger, but I think this is important, we only got one planet, one home, we should do something before it’s too late.
Because of all this freaking environmental shit, the birds, animals, puppies and the rest of them cute critters are being affected. I want to wake up in 10 years time, and hear the birds singing in the morning, squirrels and foxes and deer roaming the woodlands.
But the freaking corporates and their greed is killing all the natural stuff man, seriously, we need to curb our enthusiasm. Us humans been put on this planet as custodians of all that we survey, yet we abusing this power and destroying it all and ourselves.

Did you listen to Dr. Maathai’s speech when she won the award a few years back? She essentially won the award for being “a tree hugging revolutionary”. (no shots, i support her fully) But yeah, I think dude still has work to do, but Nobel’s prize has nothing to do with grading a presidency.
Last I checked it was a random honorary piece awarded by some random Swedes. I think the issue people have is with Obama, moreso than the award…

@Greums, oh yeah! The BBC actually made a documentary on La Haine, they broke down the whole science, you know like what you just with Cut Killer flipping the Edith Piaf sample, it was amazing viewing. Unfortunately the documentary is not part of the 3 disc set. :(
Telling you though man, that movie effected me, struck a chord deep inside. One of the most important pieces of cinematic works from the 90s.
The part where they gripped that Nazi skin head, and it’s a game of nerves, will he pull the trigger or not.
The whole thing looked and played so real though, like it wasn’t even acting, just a fly on the wall documentary, and you was right there at the heart of it.
I mean my first reaction was like what? But ultimately its an honor. And alot of people say Obama is all talk, but what this prize kind of confirms, and what is true, is that…talk matters.
Was at the gym watching cranky ass Lou Dobbs whine about this (one of many media types that needs to be put out pasture.) He said Obama hadn’t accomplished much. 9 months aint long, but I do think he’s putting us on the right course internationally, moving out of Iraq, moving away from the illegal policies of the last admin and putting peace before protection.
Is that all worthy of the Peace Prize? IMO no. But shit they gave it to Henry Kissinger. And I am proud of him as a supporter and a President who I think embodies the ideals we need in our leaders.

I used a story about an episode of the Showtime series by Penn & Teller titled, “Bullshit” had a NPP winner by the name of Dr. Frank Wilzcek.
The episode was called “Ghostbusters”.
They brought him on the show because he’s “smart” and he doesn’t believe in ghosts or an afterlife according to the scientific research he has conducted.
Well, I never seen a ghost, but I do know there is unexplained phenomena that exists that the most brilliant minds can’t explain or don’t want to research because it may be too unscientific to their colleagues and may ruin their reputation in that community.
I do have faith & hope in existence beyond this realm.

By giving him the peace prize this early, they are challenging him to follow his own words and “stick to the program” that they desire. It’s like telling someone they are your best friend and that you trust them because they would never stab you in the back the day after you met them. If they were to later stab you in the back, they would likely feel a little more guilty than if you never told them that.

At everyone else, I’ll tell you why Obama doesn’t deserve the award. I haven’t seen any kind of result from anything he’s done. The only good I’ve seen come since Obama’s been in the office is the moving of troops out of Iraq (and into Afghanistan) and the DJ is back up (still not an accurate determinant of a healthy economy).
Now, who should win the award? IMO, Hu Jia of China. Now I dont necessarily believe China is a threat to national security, but I do believe you shouldn’t be persecuted for political dissidence. I think giving Hu Jia the award would have been an acknowledgment from the rest of the world that China’s dealings with political dissidents is unacceptable.
