If it seems as if TSS (more so myself) has been on a Gucci Mane overload lately, blame him, not us (me). It’s just not everyday Hip-Hop sees an artist drop THREE mixtapes at ONCE, which is clearly a testament to two things: Read the rest of this entry »
Spearheading the New York revival, Skyzoo has proven time and time again that his sharp lyricism could be the fuel that helps rocket his style of Hip-Hop back to the forefront. And of course, an affiliation with Just Blaze and a certain former Little Brother producer can’t hurt either. The Salvation, an album that Sky says is 25 years in the making, employs all of the aforementioned to piece together the story of a lyricist by trade in post-Golden Era New York. Look ma! Eminem’s so (not) hot this year, he’s got his own video game!!!
To be perfectly honest, this is the type of cutting room material you’d expect to appear on video games. A couple of nice, zany couplets here and there, but nothing worth really salvaging for Relapse 2. Read the rest of this entry »
Remember how I told you about those “tasteful covers” the ever talented Lushlife concocted? Check him recreate the euphoria which is that of Jay’s “Dead Presidents” as well as CRU’s “Just Another Case.” Read the rest of this entry »
Regardless of what MTV’s list says or whether you want to accept the idea, Drake & Gucci are the hottest names in the game right now. Deal with it.
And I’m still trying to figure out what the hell Gucci’s status is. In jail? Read the rest of this entry »
Shake threw this up last night and I already knew what I was playing today, strictly off seeing “Go Stetsa” and “Suzy…” in the tracklisting.

If there were two posts per day on Freddie Gibbs for the next two months, I still wouldn’t think we were covering his music enough. Pardon my overtly Stan-like stance on the Gary-born lyricist. But in a game full of hyperbolic gangsters and effeminate hipsters, the presence of honesty that is found in Freddie’s music is the Hip-Hop equivalent to finding a valid opinion on a Fox News program. For your weekend perusal, the guys @ The Hip-Hop Project got together with Cormega & Legal Hustle to drop a mixtape before Mega’s album drops. The Urban Legend mixtape is a collection of Mega B-sides, collaborations, unreleased songs and the ilk. Hopefully, it will also help open the ears to those still unaware of Cormega’s place in the game. A rapper’s rapper is what I’ve always considered the man to be, one able to put words & flows together effortlessly. Read the rest of this entry »

Truck North is shaping up to be the Styles P. of his generation. Bars for days and not giving a fuck about all the intangibles. Just rhyme homie. Jim Jones just might be headed down the wrong career track. If the sales of Pray IV Reign were any indication (and the actual music itself), folks aren’t too inclined hearing Jim spit without the likes of Juelz and Cam (or Max, for that matter) propping him up by providing him up surrounding him with their ghostwritten prose guest verses. However, one area where Jim has shown considerable aptitude (besides ad-libbin’, of course) is video direction. Who knows his actual involvement behind the camera, but the following clips bearing his name (or his pseudonym CAPO) are just so beautifully hood. Read the rest of this entry »

It took me awhile to find out about Wiz Khalifa, and even longer to accept his music. Once I figured out how to pronounce his name, though, I realized I still couldn’t dig the flashiness from this relatively unheralded Steel City native, period. There’s just something about dude’s pistol-packing, pricey pastel gear, layered chains and cheap claims of throwing money in the air that left the 23-year-old’s aura on the shelf Read the rest of this entry »
