Notable Quotable - David Banner’s “Something Is Wrong”
AUDIO By TC on October 6, 2009 at 11:22 amNas blogged and talked about it, but D.B. is maximizing his platform by getting his message across through Hip-Hop’s oldest vehicle: the microphone.
“In Chi-Town, D. Albert’s laying on the ground
His life bleeds away while other folks stand around
We gangstas, but we can’t stop the pain in our town
I watched it on the net and that moment was profound
The OG’z gotta put the BG’z in check
I’m tryna do something but I need y’all help
We started gangbanging to protect ourself
Now it’s power & respect to kill everything for wealth
And it’s the same thing in rap:
You tell the kids to stay hood and you ain’t even in the trap
He ain’t never sell dope, he ain’t never did time
And if you did, why would you want them to walk the same lines?
It’s like we travel back in time, took the whip with the crack
Now it’s Black on Black crime
Yeah, we put our cities on the map
But they call it the trap because most hoods are just that
A trap…”
David Banner from “Something Is Wrong” off the upcoming album Death Of A Popstar
While the coverage of the Derrion Albert tragedy has undoubtedly been widespread and in most cases overbearing on the world wide web, the stark reality of the matter is there’s never enough groundwork being done on these issues to really quarantine the societal ill. Do not be surprised if the name Derrion Albert doesn’t ring a bell to the citizen who’s not knee-deep in the Internet’s happenings. If need be, the Chicago incident should be run into the ground until every person in position to change the game is forced to act. And while knuckleheads with no home-training are definitely the perennial problem, let’s shed some light on the lack of law enforcement in the area who always seem to be on hand for a rolling stop or some sort of associated poppycock.
As for Banner, looks like he’s back in the driver’s seat of the correct automobile. Chevy’s with butterfly doors never did shit but create a circus in traffic.

Nice track but can we get a version without that screeching woman?
This post deserves more shine. Banner has always dropped knowledge in his music which is why he is one of my most respected artists to date. Sure he may drop some ignorant rap at points, but that’s game.
He’s an intelligent dude who can back his opinion up both on and off the mic.
This is the issue I have with Banner though. We can get a song like this and in the next song, he’s chasing women and money! He’s on bullshit for real. He needs to stick to this subject matter, and leave the butterfly doors to someone else! I’m not hating at all, because I went to Southern U, and the work he did as SGA Prez is legendary! This is his lane and where he makes the most impact
He never got the part as Gamble in The Dark Knight, because it’ll be alright on the knight, with Michael Jai White!

But the last few albums dude has seemed committed to the crossover. I thought it was outta characted and kinda contradictory.
Mississippi The Album is still a fave of mine though.

I hope DB stays true to himself this album ….
late cry, publicity stunt, educated rapper toting guns on camera, and the epic fail of re-hashing a ying yang twins song and still selling a dud
