The other day, I said that I thought Superbad didn’t live up to my expectations. I meant it. Too many redundant themes and rhymes. Too many rehashed tracks. It pretty much adds credence to my firm belief that artists put way more time & actual creative effort into their mixtapes than label-approved albums.

However, “Mind Of A Maniac” was one of the album tracks where Boosie was able to tap into a certain something. Instead of formula, it was personal & paranoid, characteristics that made Bad Azz’s music attractive in the first place.

Even though he’s about to do at least a calendar (“It’s just a minor setback for a major comeback.”), Boosie’s already claiming to have delivered his next album, Free At Last, to Warner Bros. Until then, I’ll keep spinnin’ the abridged version of Superbad that I created for my iPod and a couple of the mixtapes that dropped prior to the album. And here’s to hoping Boosie uses his time to clear his mind and put pen to pad to create sustaining music.

Oh yeah, the video is a Motion Family production. Get familiar, these boys are wreckin’ shop right now.
