Jack Splash’s upcoming album will be the prolific producer’s foray into microphone duties, neither as the singer in Plantlife that they ladies love nor producer extraordinaire. He’ll be showcasing his skills as an emcee. With that in mind, there’s his upcoming Heir To The Throne Vol. 1 mixtape and the first leaks: “Lauryn Hill” and “In The Future.” On the indirect ode to our misunderstood, singing chatuesse, Jack runs down a list of influences who helped him to be one of the shapers of today’s music, the new age of funk as Mos Def once said.

Like the names mentioned in “Lauryn Hill,” being cutting edge can sometimes mean being further ahead of those you intend to connect with. For me, that’s always been the draw to Jack as a personality and musician. In biblical times, the teacher sought students to take under wing & share wisdom. The roles are reversed. In the present, it’s on the student to seek out the teacher. With a list of production credits that includes Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, Estelle, Cee-Lo’s entire upcoming album coming, John Legend, Solange, Anthony Hamilton, Jack is holding session. Grab a seat, listen and learn.

On the flipside, “In The Future” finds Kelis accompanying Jack on a audio tryst. More eclectro-driven, more chaotic but filled with Jack’s masterful use of a kaleidoscope of sounds.
