When mainstream media outlets like The New York Times decide to do interviews with artists of Ghostface Killah’s caliber, you feel compelled to find out what was said. Obviously if you heard Mayer Hawthorne’s music and knowing Ghost’s affinity for Soul (evident in the Ghostdini project), it’s not a shocker to find out he’s a fan.

“He’s crazy. His music is fire. He got a lot of soul, a lot of Motown soul. The production and how he sings, it sounds like he could’ve been like Smokey Robinson. You would think he was a black guy, to have the soul that he’s bringing to the table like that, but to find out no, it’s even more incredible.”

Ghostface add to the already long list of celebs (John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake) drinking the Kool Aid of Mayer Hawthorne’s music. If you haven’t already believed the hype, Ghost is definitely a convincing co-sign.
