Ghostface <3’s Mayer, Too
Everything Else By Jason H. on October 6, 2009 at 9:24 amWhen mainstream media outlets like The New York Times decide to do interviews with artists of Ghostface Killah’s caliber, you feel compelled to find out what was said. Obviously if you heard Mayer Hawthorne’s music and knowing Ghost’s affinity for Soul (evident in the Ghostdini project), it’s not a shocker to find out he’s a fan.
“He’s crazy. His music is fire. He got a lot of soul, a lot of Motown soul. The production and how he sings, it sounds like he could’ve been like Smokey Robinson. You would think he was a black guy, to have the soul that he’s bringing to the table like that, but to find out no, it’s even more incredible.”
Ghostface add to the already long list of celebs (John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake) drinking the Kool Aid of Mayer Hawthorne’s music. If you haven’t already believed the hype, Ghost is definitely a convincing co-sign.

The Great Wizard Has Talked !
That collabo would be insane.
I’m already waiting for the next album.
He (Mayer Hawthorne) is gonna be in Atl tonight….can-not wait!
Mayer Hawthorne is the slickness.
I don’t give a f-ck if Ghost co-signs him or not. Dude is OK but he’s basically doing a pastiche of that old Motown/soul sound . There’s nothing modern or uniquely him about his music. Apparently he was a hip hop DJ before this and his sh-t don’t even knock or feel like it. He’s not wack but if you haven’t checked out all the old soul music that’s been out there for years that inspired Ghost, do that first before checking Hawthorne out. I mean, you may as well hear the real thing instead of some young dude that’s doing a wannabe facsimile of it.
