“I Never Cried When Pac Died”

“But I Probably Will When Hov Does.” — Drake on “Fear”
Hip-Hop police is up in arms again. Drizzy Drake is being charged with falsifying love for the culture based on his lack of appreciation of its roots. Well, really, his crime was not crying when Pac died. For whatever reason, that seems to be offending people to the point where the man has to stoop to justifying himself on MTV.
For my .02, anyone that criticized Drake for not shedding tears when Pac moved to Cuba died is a hypocrite. Probably the same bunch of people who picked on Lupe when he forgot four bars from ATCQ. Quit frontin’ like real Hip-Hop heads all cry in unison harmonizing “Hail Mary” every September 13th or that you’ve memorized every classic ever.
We aren’t meant to be perfect, but we do have to show some respect. Lupe didn’t lack it initially and then he acted like he didn’t care about ATCQ and earned the hate. But Drake? Maaaan, that boy ain’t did nothin’ but say somethin’ stupid and apologize for it.
Where’s the crime in that?

Ghey line.
Grey Hates
i agree (for once) with Drake
Yeah this is super stupid but for real, the screenshot of the video makes Drake seem like he’ll miss Hov for other reasons (l>)lol
how old is Drake? He couldn’t have been more than 9 (prob younger) when Pac died.
I DIDNT CRY FOR PAC WHEN HE DIED.
real story
drake, stop explaining yourself.
how old is Drake? He couldn’t have been more than 9 (prob younger) when Pac died.
===============================================
That’s the gist of the line, but the retards couldn’t understand it.
drake shouldn’t have to explain himself. he’s a grown man, that’s his opinion & like MZ pointed out, he was prolly really young when pac died.
i’m more disappointed that he apologized than at his original statement.
He was 9 when Pac died. His parents most likely let him listen to that kind of music at that age. There is a 2 year old somewhere that’s not going to give a rats ass about Hov when he dies…….
Is it just me or am I the only one who doesn’t she what all the hype is with Drake. He isn’t wack, but I don’t see greatness either.
i’m more disappointed that he apologized than at his original statement.

This.
I really didn’t think it was that serious.
@ Since 1979 — That’s my view also. Don’t like his flow, and haven’t heard a song or line that can convince me otherwise. He does seem to be able to generate a lot of hype though - not a bad thing for an artist.
Hip Hop fans/stans need a group hug, I didn’t cry when Tupac or Biggie passed. And half the folks who are complaining probably didn’t cry either.
I was 11 when Pac died, and I was up late playing some video game. When I flipped to MTV that night, I was shocked. I even woke my sleeping mother up to let her know. We had only been outta Cali for 2 years, so that was still home to me. But on the real, I didn’t cry. For one reason, I was young, and secondly, for those who remember, his death was all sketchy and shit. But it was sad. Not one tear fell, though.

================================
I ain’t gonna lie, I shed a tear when Pac died.
Big? Not so much.
I related to them on two completely different levels.
Big was a great rapper but Pac was a huge influence on me.
I was 10. I thought it was fucked up…but meh. I didn’t really really get sad over it until I was much older and could understand the man’s impact. I mean, I knew his songs but if you were like 10-13 and can tell me you understood the cultural, racial, societal impacts of Pac and his poetry, then you’re full of shit.
i didnt cry when pac died either and i was and still am a huge fan of his body of work.
i guess I dont love hip hop after all…all those years of watching my uncles breakdance and learning to pop lock and tagging and graph and DJing were all in vain.
I cried when Pimp died… :(
I doubt I’d shed a tear for Hov though, and I’m a fan.
But his music doesn’t resonate with me the way Pac’s stuff did.
I didn’t cry when Pac died either…It did bring me down though. When BIG died I didn’t reallly feel a way about it. I honestly almost expected it because of the beef.
But I got choked up watching “Up” so pay me no mind lol.
I was 5 when Pac died. Needless to say, I didn’t cry. I was sad, because I listened to 2Pac along with my brothers and my dad, but without the whole entire grasp of Death, and him being gone, etc. Especially when his songs kept coming out lol
As I got older, I became more saddened by his death because his music was a part of my childhood, and his death symbolized a turning point of hip hop in my life. After Pac died, no other artists really filled that void of enjoyment. Granted, we had people like DMX and Jay-Z, but it wasn’t the same.
I am still disappointed with Hip-Hop today, for different reasons. Drake didn’t/doesn’t/shouldn’t have to apologize for some shit he believes in/he said. And I think its silly to fuck with him about it.
This is why I don’t like Drake; because he has no backbone whatsoever. MCing is about believing what you say, and sticking by it. Not apologizing left and right to make sure that everybody likes you.
On the other hand, I agree. It’s a generational thing. I didn’t cry when Pac died, but will care when Jigga does. Similarly, my kids won’t give a fuck when Jay dies.
honestly though…when did fans become that bitchy to the point that they got their panties in a bunch over a line in a song?
either way imagine what it’ll be like when Eli Porter dies?
*whimper* We deed it! *sobs*
^LMAO. Man, “Up” was like “Lion King”. They know how to get you with them movies. Lol.
I was just sad and reflective when Pac and Big died. Same with MJ, Pimp, JMJ and Aaliyah. Hov lived his life long and great. you’ll never know till he passes though.
Lol @ everyone gettin all morbid.
MCing is about believing what you say, and sticking by it. Not apologizing left and right to make sure that everybody likes you.

Word up.
But Drake is the kid in High School that wanted to be friends with everyone.
^ agree with everything posted above by Amp.
i don’t cry, i paint !
‘Up’ made you cry too, Gotty?
I agree with everyone that doesn’t understand the hype. the only person i felt shocked by when he died even tho i knew it was around the corner for him was DILLA, and i was born in 1979
i don’t cry, i paint !
=========================
LOL
I swear, I’ve shed more tears as an adult listening to music or watching a good movie then I have in my personal life.
Strange, I know lol.
Add me to the list of being that young when Pac died. I was 10 and the tear ducts stayed dormant. I didn’t hate Pac or anything as I was more confused about it than genuinely upset. But damn that line is really nothing to get in a tizzy over.
I’m not feeling this new e-trend of apologizing for every. little. thing. Sure you step out of line at times and you need to own up to your mistakes. But I don’t see any foul play here.
[GG] HUG, na-nah na-nah
[GG] Make em say HUG (UNGGGGGGH)
Na-nah na-nah (na-nah na-nah)
drake looks like he cries for a lot of other reasons, make-up not on right, mom not home when he gets home from school, tv too low, tv too loud, girlfriend said hes ugly, fans being mean
I cried when Pac died.
I cried when I listened to his music.
I felt that the world lost someone who could eventually change it in such a profound manner.
But perhaps it was because I not only grew up listening to his music (and if you recall, Pac made music that actually had very significant meaning)…
But also because I was able to meet and speak with him for hours once.
He was one of the most charismatic and intelligent persons that I have ever met in my life.
-
My take on the Drake line is this…
As soon as I heard it, I had to rewind. And I will not lie, I found it unnecessary - I still do.
But what is done is done… what is recorded is forever recorded…
And I took no offense to it.
But again, I will say that the line was unnecessary in my opinion.
But that… is only MY opinion.
I was only 7 when Pac died…..
cry ! cry !! u will piss less !!!
I’m not good at crying. Watched Up with a certain lady. She got real choked up and emotional about something or other. I was impressed by the graphics. 3-D has really improved over the years.
Why would he cry over someone he personally didn’t know. When Pac died he was Canada-side. illgga Please

Cold blooded lol.
You may have pimp bones in your body lol.
Dang…
Some of you are kids! lol
Niggaz wasn’t crying when when Pusha said those lines about biggie “…your reign on the top/never quote em’ i ain’t know em’/if you ain’t kissed my momma how the fuck you ride for him/you dick eating niggaz probably wished you died for him/and I admired his work but I ain’t never cry for him…”
folks love pickin’ on poor aubrey..
to sum it up best “same sword they knight you/they gon’ good night you with/shit that’s only half if they like you…” - (c) Jigga
“…your reign on the top/never quote em’ i ain’t know em’/if you ain’t kissed my momma how the fuck you ride for him/you dick eating niggaz probably wished you died for him/and I admired his work but I ain’t never cry for him…”
==========================================
I peeped that. I’m 50/50 on the sentiment but the fact Pusha said it so unapologetically, you kinda have to respect it.
Dang…
Some of you are kids! lol

Days like this make me feel like a geezer lol.
the life makes me laugh, makes me cry, even makes me cry of laughing, it’s just a dream whose death awakes us…
really crying over a rapper? really? the fuck…
@ killamonk
Enh… people cry over movies and books.
@ trills eli porter reference
————————–
fam you musent speak words like these!!!!
really crying over a rapper? really? the fuck
^a person plus when it’s an artist so
sometimes music feels humanity
and thus peoples feelings…
that’s an option.
but ya option is : when u don’t know the person, it’s only entertainment, everyday unknown people passed away
and that’s a second way of think, also real.
peace
when pac died i was angry
when big died i was floored
when pimp died i felt empty and dissapointed
when MJ died I cried
when stevie dies im gonna ball.
i remember the night pac died i hit up a gang of house parties that friday night and everywhere i went niggas was BLASTIN pac…females was on the porch crying and real dudes was just talking about it in disbelief smoking pouring out liquor.
I am willing to go out on a limb here and say that more people cried when Jack died than when Pac died.
Jack = Leo = Titanic
I love Pac, no pause necessary. Expanded on the idea many times over b/c of the shared birthday & all that good jazz. And I’ve been choked up but I’ve never cried over an entertainer or celeb’s death.
i didn’t cry…and i was 18 in college…frosh year. and i realized the impact…and i loved pac.
but cry…nope. it’s hard to cry when the chickens come home to roost. word to malcolm x.
take that however u want.
raindrops teardrops
See, I said shed a tear cause that’s what happened. A few tears dropped and I shook it off. It was my freshman year of college, everyone still geeked about getting outta the house, new pussy on all of our young minds, and it came on MTV that Pac died. That shit hit the campus hard.
I was twisted the remainder of that week, me, my roommate & a couple of other kids on my floor, piled into my dormroom, smoking weed, drinkin’ Alize and blasting Pac’s discog until the RA came and told us to turn it off. I remember at the party in the rec center that weekend, I was bent more then normally and I almost got into it with the DJ cause he kinda played me off when I asked him to play “Ambitions Of A Rider” lol. Pac was my guy (nh).
Never seen a man cry till I seen a man die. (Scarface)
co-sing @ Paw and Scarface so
Emo-post
I was at PG Plaza when he passed it and foot traffic stopped, ppl listenin to the radio reports. It was a sad moment. That said Drake wont be affected by this.Matterfact, Half Pac’s fans then now acknowledge that Jigga’s the current king so it aint no big deal.
Chuck_You is right. Thats because Drake’s a emo artist, like Slug, Joe Budden, Murs,50(in a way). I cant get all the way into Drake’s shit but theres a market for it.
i was 14….at the time, pacs lyrics and tone were so strong that i figured that was his lifestyle. so for him to die wasnt a shock. just thought thats how it went. and biggie….well never really felt him.
Didn’t cry when B.I.G., Pac, ODB, Pun, Big L, Dilla, JMJ, MJ, etc died. Won’t when Jay/Nas or remaining members of my favorite group Wu-Tang does. Don’t get what all the fuss is about….unles you knew the people.
I cried when my pops died, but a rapper/entertainer/sports figure…not so much.
Hip Hop fans grow up…. Man did a simple line go over that many people’s head?
This is my problem w/ Drake: He wrote the line. He recorded the line. He’s at a point where everything he breathes on is a hit. So he shouldn’t give a shit about what anybody says about his raps. A rapper shouldn’t have to explain his lyrics to anyone. Drake shoulda told ‘em to eat a dick up and don’t be askin me about what the fuck I said on a song. Or something like that.
i was sad/shook when pac died, cant cry for some one i have not spent time with as a person. i was touched(no MJ) by his music, but didnt know him like that to go and shed a tear.
sidenote:drake is lame, he got a song talking he a underdog, kid was on a TV show, did one iffy mix tape and got hype. and tell him to stop saying “yeah” so fucking much. and drake’s hooks>his verse’s. yeah i said it.
@ tres
If Drake did that… his career would be over.
Why?
Because as much as I actually like the guy…
He truly has NO career at this point.
Mixtapes, guest appearances and an EP.
The best response would have been no response at this point in his “career.”
I felt that the world lost someone who could eventually change it in such a profound manner.
——————————————————–
true, i remember the interview he did, think it was with tablatha sourn(sp) where he said like “i might not change the world, but i will spark the mind that will change it. if i keep talking about it” or something like that. when i heard that, i thought he knew exactly what he was born to do. and the position he was in to speak up about it so people could hear and be influenced and inspired by his music/art.
Since 1979 said……Is it just me or am I the only one who doesn’t she what all the hype is with Drake. He isn’t wack, but I don’t see greatness either.
In my opinion he is wack otherwise, we are on the same page
I cried when I stubbed my toe.
A line has sparked conversation all across hip-hop, and look at the posts on this page, we’re all takling about what we did when Pac died, etc.
Drake - 1
Haters - 0
And he’s not wack, you can say he’s only hot (no homo) because of Weezy but at the same time, you could say Waynes buzz would be damn near dead without Drake.
Drake ain’t wack.
A little corny, maybe, but dude ain’t wack.
Name a weak verse.
I didn’t cry when Pac died. I was 15. Hell, I thought he was gonna pull through. When I heard he got shot, I said ‘Again?’ I brushed it off, because I always thought of Pac as a strong dude.
I shed one tear when Biggie died. I was still 15. LOL Seriously, I felt a connection with B.I.G. seeing as we shared the same birthday and all. Something didn’t hit me right that night, and that Sunday morning, my boy called and told me the news.
The other other celeb I shed a tear over (and when I say a tear, I mean ONE, no boo hoo hoo nigga) was Aalyiah. And that was because I met her on 3 separate occasions here in VA, and she was the sweetest person.
Drake can cry over who he wants to, who cares? I personally wouldn’t cry over anybody else; if I couldn’t bring myself to shed a tear when MJ died, fuck everybody else. (As far as crying goes…)
I would cry if Obama was ASSASSINATED but not if that nigga died from natural causes.. I might get weak if Spike Lee passed but thattttttts about it!
“Lupe didn’t lack it initially and then he acted like he didn’t care about ATCQ and earned the hate.”
Are you talking about the statement Vibe released? Because Lupe was trying to sue them because that statement was made before Hip-Hop Honors and they released it afterwards like that was his response to it. He said so on Kay Slay’s Show.
If you have to explain what you say, you didn’t say it right the 1st time.
I was 23 when Tupac passed/moved to Cuba/bailed out of existence and I felt bad but cry?? No way. When Biggie got shot I was more angry than sad but cry?? I think not. When MJ passed it only made me sad that he was gone but I don’t even think I was down about it.
Now when JB passed I was upset for days. I think I cried when I got hella bent but that can’t count.
I understand Drakes statement and he should have never apologized or explained it. I can’t see Pac getting in a uproar about that line. He would go in the studio and rip Drake a new orifice. You can’t love everything about hip-hop and critics and tastemakers need to understand that shit.
I agree with Real Anon, what’s the point of saying that?
I am not of this earth. I do not cry.
Pac’s death was shocking…as was JMJ’s.
MJ’s took my spirits way down.
HOWEVER, when Stevie *knocks on coffee table* passes, that’s a whole ‘nother story…. That’d mess me up BAD.
I cry when the theme from Mahogany plays.
I cried watching Cooley High when Cochese died. (word to L-Boogie)
I took a leak earlier this evening.
For real though, let the young fella cry at what the fcuk he wants to cry about…. For whatever reason, the Lupe thing annoyed me, but this is an issue???
What’s the big deal? The cat didn’t have a connection with Pac like he does with Jay. I don’t cry over celebs, but people that inspired me like a Pac, I raise my glass and say thanks and keep it moving.
Gotta agree with Since 1979 as well, Drake is good, but not big as his hype. I don’t know what makes him better than Wale, BOB, Cole, Jay Rock and other cats
Some are asking the perfect question…
“Who cares?”
And that… is your answer.
-
Drake is the one who made the mistake.
He addressed it.
Thus bringing attention to it.
Sometimes it is better to leave things alone.
(Lesson learned Aubrey… I hope)
On the real. Who cares what Drake does. Dude isnt even that nice. Only reason he famous is cuz he has the marketing genius of Little Wayne behind him and Jay’s co-sign. He has yet to impress.
Maybe we should talk about crying more often.
I didnt cry when pac died i wuz like 3, i didnt even cry when micheal jackson died why the fuck would i cry for someone i dont know? and never met in my life. ya maybe they influenced me but at the end of the day would they cry for me? no? so fuck them and what they about TS
I feel Drake on that. I didn’t cry when Pac died. I believe I was 6 at the time. Basically because I was too young to understand A. Pac’s Music and B. The impact that he had on the industry as a whole. But since Jay-Z is still a prominent rapper and I’ve gotten to an age where I can buy his music and fully understand what he’s saying, I can honestly say that I will cry if/when he passes. So until then, ROC NATION all day!
