DJ Books – The Teacher Part 2 (The Best of KRS-One)
AUDIO By Gotty™ on October 28, 2009 at 11:11 pmWatching Kris Parker upstage all of the young bucks in his BET Cipher reminded me that this needed to be posted. Sure, KRS-One is apologetically abrasive, egocentric & opinionated. That’s the overwhelming consensus when you hear people speak his name in 2009. Been that way for years. But what’s often forgotten is Kris’ catalog sports bonafied hits and he will always remain one of the preeminent emcees in this thing called rap.
You can’t forget that the man who rose from living in a shelter was the face of our music for years and years. A listen to both parts of this collection will serve as a reminder of why Kris held the position. Before Kris, there were “response records.” After him, the whole scope of what a diss could and should be was changed. And nobody dissed The Blastmaster, at least not successfully to my knowledge. Find another MC who controls the mic and the crowd better when he’s center stage. Another who managed to unite the East Coast for a cause. And while I’m speaking of his past accolades, do remember this man is still dropping albums.
A few days ago, Digger’s Union posted this best of Kris Parker collection (there’s a part one as well) and it pretty much goes to show that for those who remember that no matter what he says, it’s what KRS has said on the mic that will keep his name in the upper echelons. All hail as Knowledge still Reigns Supreme.

i went and dug up my copy of “return of the boom bap” after watching that cipher.
Love’s Gonna Get Ya >>>>>>>>>>>
What was part 1?
Everytime I hear the name KRS-ONE, I can’t help but listen to Sublime’s tribute to him.
“And I know because of KRS-ONE.”
^ Click the linked text holmes. Got you covered already.
“Rap Is Something You Do, Hip-Hop Is Something You Live”
KRS-ONE epitomizes who/what an MC is and should aspire to be.
“…abrasive, egocentric & opinionated.”
^ with the voice, skills, & bravado to back it up.
That whole laid-back, I’m-too-cool-for-school demeanor that Wale brought to the BET cypher…? Man, get the fuck out of here with that meek/mousey bullshit.
BLASTMASTER KRS-ONE. with “Blastmaster” being the key operative word/element. Fools need to learn how to project their voice and BE HEARD.
WOOP, WOOP!
I’m such a moron. He came to speak at University of Delaware for free and I completely forgot about it.

“A Friend” is my fav KRS-One track… not his biggest hit by all means, but a damn dope track.
Good drop.
“HOW many emcess must get dissed, before somebody says ‘don’t fuck wit’ Kris?’”
One of the best lines in hip-hop history.
Too many folks get caught up in the man’s politics and forget how ill of an MC this dude was/is.
Boogie Down was performing and they ain’t no joke, down with the sound called BDP!
MC’s Act Like They Don’t Know is probably my favourite KRS track, top notch lyrics and a slick beat courtesy of DJ Premier.
Also The P Is Still (Remix) from Return of The Boom Bap and Menace II Society soundtrack is awesome too, great storytelling and a vintage DJ Premier beat, makes the bass cone on my speakers go whoom whoom whoom!
All the BDP albums are stone cold classics, and so is his solo album and singles catalogue on JIVE.
Who can forget the PM Dawn incident and also the time when he ripped into Tim Westwood live during the Radio One Rap Show, that was so random, but funny!
All the things that makes KRS a great MC and performer; makes him sound like an ass when he is not rhyming. But you can not deny his talent and the mark he has made in the culture.
Also The P Is Still (Remix) from Return of The Boom Bap and Menace II Society soundtrack is awesome too

Return of the Boom Bap is easily my favorite KRS-One album.
@Douglas Howser, agreed about Return of The Boom Bap with Sex & Violence coming in at second for me.
Lyrically Rakim is the GOAT, no ifs or buts about it.
However, in terms of charisma, presence on the mic and sheer entertainment value, KRS One is the most perfectly rounded emcee to ever grace the mic, straight up, he knows how to cold rock the spot and get the crowd amped up during a live performance.
He may not still make great albums but he can go toe to toe with the best of em’. So the next time ya’ll say who is the greatest M.C. there is no way i should be squinting to find his name……..
