“Deez Nuts” Do Theater

“Deez Nuts” is not your typical theater title but what do you expect from The Beatnuts?
Initially Juju and Psycho Les and the theater stage seem like oil and water. But as “Deez Nuts” highlights this years Hip-Hop Theater Festival, the duo seems to prove me wrong. Both stage performance and script this is could only be conceptualized by some like Ego Trip founder, Sacha Jenkins. Only showing for three days, this experiment might the beginning of something interesting.
If you’re in New York, “Deez Nuts” will be showing from today, October 1 through October 3 at the Ohio Theater.

I’ve never wanted to live in New York more than for this show.
Its nice to see that underground talent is getting a chance to share this avenue with mainstream artist.
From a review I found online:
“In this bravura performance Psycho Les plays a retarded autistic teenager whose only means of expression is through the medium of dance, Juju plays the flamboyantly homosexual dance instructor whose ceaseless encouragement against all odds helps Les fulfill his dream of performing his avantgarde version of Swan Lake at The Tunnel.”
Interesting, sounds like a cross between The Who’s TOMMY and Billy Elliott.

The review continues by hailing Les’s performance as “breathtaking – the world he has created for his character has been so richly realised it becomes almost impossible to separate the performance from reality. As a retard he is utterly convincing”.
Incidentally, the rumour is that Psycho Les refuses to come out of character for the duration of the run – insiders at the Ohio Theater report seeing him spending hours alone backstage, clutching himself and rocking back and forwards, and occasionally pissing his pants.

@Truth King, obviously he got into the Delorean this morning, set the co-ordinates to 9pm, 1st October 2009, pedal to the metal, hit 88mph, zoom, travelled a few hours into the future, copped the show and the critics review. Then travelled back to present time, and gave us all the low down.
Or maybe he is telling fibbs or possibly there was an advance performance already for the critics and journalist types?
Written and conceived by Sacha Jenkins, love his work for Ego Trip in particular the Big Book of Racism, so this should be a witty play indeed.
