An Open Letter To Freddie Gibbs & Pill
Everything Else By J. Tinsley on October 11, 2009 at 2:21 pmDear Freddie G. & Pill,
What’s good fellas? Before I get to my main point, let me first say individually, you two, are creating some of the finest music in rotation currently (regardless of region, tenure or genre). All in all, it has been a great year for “new” artists and you two are definitely reasons which support that claim. But you don’t need me to tell you that. midwestgangstaboxframecadillacmuzik and soon to be 4075: The Refill are likely to be in rotation for the foreseeable future and I can only look forward to whatever projects you all have in 2010 and beyond.
BUT (there’s always a but), I have one request. Forgive me if I’m jumping the gun, but a collab project would be clinically insane. I’m talking the jackets that make you hug yourself, insane. The musical chemistry you two embody is something that doesn’t surface too often. 8Ball & MJG will always be legends, but even they’re somewhat dormat. Boosie and Webbie hardly ever find themselves in the same booth anymore. The same can be said for Outkast and God bless the dead, but we will never see another UGK album. If there was any time to at least experiment with this plan, it’s now. You’ve already got a good story with one being from Atlanta and the other from Gary, Indiana, but on wax it would appear as if you two were raised next door to one another. And, as far as I know, there’s nothing in either one of your pasts that could potentially come back to bite you. I’m not mentioning any names, but you know how Hip-Hop works.
With all this said, please don’t mistake me for an A&R at Def Jam or Universal, but I feel extremely confident a tag team effort could work. Keep your same working regiments (Freddie, keep smoking bruh,) same producers, same vibe, same everything. If, by chance, all this isn’t enough persuasion, TSS fucks with the both of you. What more of a stamp do you need? You know, other than Barack himself. Some may say I’m looking too far into the future or overrating the abilities of two “newcomers”, but I’ll take my loss like a man if I’m proven wrong. Until then, I’ll just wait for a response from you two on this demand…I mean, suggestion.
Respectfully,
J. Tinsley
