All The Dope Boys Go Crazy: Jay-Z & Young Jeezy

“Hov on that new shit
Niggas like how come
Niggas want my old shit
Buy my old album…” — Jay-Z from “On To The Next One”
(I guess I’m one of them niggas, then.)
The Blueprint 3 served up a glimpse of Grizzly Bear Jay. But for those who grew up on the “thug nigga ‘til the end,” the appetite for the real nigga shit wasn’t quite whetted, with the exception of “Real As It Gets.”
Since the about-face on retirement, Hov has moved far away from the ghetto icon he personified in his prime. To his credit, though, Hov never lied when he said he’s “treating it like the corner, fuck with him if we wanna.” The Oprah co-sign, 9/11 show (where you were hard-pressed to see any black folk), and Rocawear look-books magazines covers were all Forbesian moves in today’s music game.
But even Jay can’t keep the doo rag completely off — and he always seems to tie it tight when Mr. 17.5 is around.
Young Jeezy Feat. Jay-Z - “Go Crazy” (Remix)
Even while heading the Carter administration over at 1755 Broadway, Jigga probably grew a bit tired of the tailored suits and had to get it off his chest that the leader of the Def Jam boardroom was once “lord of the kitchen cupboard,” as well. And with this one cameo, the GOAT reminded everyone of his rightful standing. On another note, this beat was truly his Byron Russell.
Bun B Feat. Z-Ro, Pimp C, Young Jeezy & Jay-Z - “Get Throwed”
More bars (“Worldwide, I’m known for the Arm & Hamm-er”) to get his corporate people buggin’, it’s not all boastin’ and braggin’. Lines like “now I got the game sewn like granny’s good shawl” were words that corporate world just wouldn’t understand.
Young Jeezy Feat. Kanye West & Jay-Z - “Put On (G-mix)”
In one verse, Jay drops more insider info about actual street dealings than on most albums, where he usually sprinkles a line or two in per song. Post record-breaking Roc Nation deal (He beat Madonna!), he still justifies his thug (“I put hours in that kitchen”), going as far as to reveal looming charges from the Feds, but more profoundly, an admission of trying to offer a straight and narrow to the Al Capone of the Crack Epidemic.
Young Jeezy Feat. Jay-Z - “My President Is Black (DC Mix)”
A so-so feature that wavers between inspiring (“…so I’ma spread my wings, you can meet me in the sky”) and insipid posturing (“I’ll be goddamned if my diamonds ain’t blue…”), this is the one cut that could be the exception out of the lot. Yet the money talk is textbook Hov, thus the track’s inclusion here.
Jay-Z Feat. Young Jeezy – “As Real As It Gets”
Originally a TM103 cut, Jay just had to jack it to give the gangsters some. And for the record, forget “Run This Town”— Hov got tooken here. “Still talkin’ yayo,” this shit still managed to “make you wanna grow up.”

All the dope boys GO Crazy!!
Man I used to play the shit outta the Go Crazy remix a few years back.
Dope post.
man if they ever did an album together that shit would be nuts… somewhere Bleek is sitting the the corner buffin’ Hov’s prada steppers mad as shit.
Good post…
Go Crazy was a sonic classic. Shit was a banger.
“Go Crazy was a sonic classic. Shit was a banger.”
_____________
Pretty much. One of my favorite tracks from Jeezy. I have the extended remix with Fat Joe and a 3rd verse from Jeez (5 verses total). Goes nuts.
Get Throwed still gets play on my ipod today. I’m not TOO into UGK but i respect them as artists who have paved the way for the newcomers. Bun B is a great mentor
jeezy looks like a child molester with his beard grown out…seriously that shit scares me.
jay z looks like a lesbian woman with his hair grown out.
what happen to the Hustlin remix with Jay, Jeezy and Ross?
personally I think Jay killed that one.
but Go crazy was dope, thats when Jeezy had everybody wearing the snowman shirts
Jigga>
Jeezy does not get the full credit that he deserves.
Jeezy shoulda kept As Real As It Gets for himself.
Agree w/ Amp. That song sounds more Jeezy than Jay-Z.
Man, i was just talkin bout this on Facebook/twitter yesterday…..that album would go extra hard….
Yea the ‘Go Crazy’ beat was a monster, Cannon did his thing.
Sidenote:
That ‘Trap or Die 2′ is hot garbage…but that ‘I got this’ is SO SERIOUS so i don’t know what to expect from Jeezy new album.
Jeezy (and Tip, for that matter) show how rappers from the South should group up. Jeezy came out as a non-lyrical rapper, and actually grew up and got better.
Get Throwed is my sh*t too. ‘Put On’ should’ve got Jeezy a cross-over nod.
That ‘Trap or Die 2? is hot garbage…
======================================
Ur buggin’
all jokes aside jeezy has some bangers under his belt.
no homo
Jay and a southern artist always makes for some good music. I can think of 10ish tracks that fit the bill and all of them go hard.
i remember it was a BIG deal when jay was on juvies HA! remix…which went HARD by the way.
do a write up on THAT shit.
That aggin really does look like a camel, doesn’t he? Uncanny.
jay-z got bodied on the juvenile remix
ha
Classic post
Jay did NOT get bodied on juvies joint. “Only reason you alive is cause you read lips…” Did niggas forget?
all dez collabos was dope !!!
yall go crazy !!
holla !
Great Post, Dev.
Jeezy and Jay are usually money when they jump on the same track together. But by far, their best track was “Go Crazy.” Too many quotables on one song is never a bad thing.
“So when I speak of success, I’m what they might mean…”
Great post. Is it so bad that Jay doesn’t rap that street anymore. Bp3 is far from hood but still good ya dig. Honestly if Hov was still rapping like on So Ghetto ppl would just call fougazi. I do like my hood tracks whenever he does do em still tho like the ones you just listed.
Grizzly Bear is dope. Can’t fault him for good taste.
Great post… He absolutely BODIED Go Crazy (egchk!)
go crazy remix, jigga murdered it !
