“Forget That Chart Man, Hit With Your Art”
LOOSIES By MZ on October 28, 2009 at 10:46 amI was planning on settling down last night and catching the BET Hip-Hop Awards, but it didn’t feel right since they slighted us and, more importantly, Contra™ in his own backyard. But while out making moves, I realized I really only wanted to see the ciphers any way and save watching the actual show for one of the countless times they’ll replay it. That way the family will have something to watch on Thanksgiving in between games. So if you like me and went on with your life and need to catch up or you want to revisit what I assume were the best ten minutes of the awards, check the videos & audio below.
BET Cypher Part 3 - Mos Def, Black Thought, Eminem & DJ Premier
BET Cypher Part 1 - Nicki Minaj, Buckshot, Crown Royale, Joe Budden & DJ Premier
BET Cypher Part 2 - Wale, Nipsey Hu$$le, GSan, KRS-One & DJ Premier

Lil’ Wayne came pretty hard in that cypher but Joe murked it…
*holds two fingers to ear*
Whats that….
*random cackling in earpiece*
You say that wasnt Wayne?
It was who?
What the fuck is a Necky Menage?
yeah she is annoying.
what disturbs me tho… people on other sites STILL not giving eminem, black thought, mos, budden, krs their due off of this.
and “they” say hip hop is dying. its not dying, but its damn sure close to life support. we got grade a quality artists like this dropping massively clever rhymes + great flow, and all people wanna talk about is minaj or whateva? come on, SON
They shoulda put KRS & Joey in the major league cypher (aka #3)
& Nicki could be straight, but all her vocal inflections are downright annoying.
Em > KRS > Joe > Mos > Black > I don’t care.
Wale was an embarrassment.
I’m sure (just like Jay-Z & Foxy Brown) Weezy is writing most of Nikki’s stuff, but you can tell that he’s not doing full verses as much. What she puts out while the little homey is “busy” will show how good an emcee she really is.
@ DEEN… correct
Em > Mos > Black Thought > KRS > Joey > Nobody else matters.
and yes… Wale was an embarrassment.
WTF was wrong wit Wale. He was standing in the background like he was gon go in on some B-Rabbit from 8-Mile shit, but when it got he’s turn dis aggin started whispering.
Methinks Wale & Budden tried to be too “cool” and act as if they weren’t enjoying themselves. Maybe they weren’t. Their voices even sounded boring. Whatever the case, not a good showing.
Every emcee in the game could lord a thing from KR about flipping the switch when it comes to performing.
Budden didn’t care, dude had on b-ball shorts. But his verse didn’t dissapoint.
Man…I don’t see why people say Wale was an embarassment. Dude went in with the sports references: “Black Yukon, know what the El-Amin”. Co-sign Gotty though, he was a bit too laid back.
Nikki needs to stop with all the accents and just rhyme; she can be decent if she stuck to the basics instead of acting basic.
Wale’s freestyle was sub par.
Black Thought is going to catch some flack for wearing that Yankees cap…wait I forgot, nobody cares about baseball.
Nicki’s inflections bugged me as well. If she had one “style” of inflection, it’d be okay. But she dibbled & dabbled, using 4-5 diff types lol.
Wale & Buddens didn’t dissapoint w/their verses. They just seemed put off, as if it were a hassle.
The only people that can get away with the “I don’t care” vibe are Snoop and Jay. Everyone else better get animated like Busta Rhymes…
Man EM murked everyone hands down…dude is a beast aint no one phuckin with him lyrically NO ONE!!! (insert favorite artist here)
wale is soo terrribleee. why has he not been dropped already? am i really missing something over these past 2 years? besides the fact that his rhymes n flow were garbage… your on a freestyle with KRS and you come like that? some monotone lifeless pile of cat shit?! if somone could show me one solid piece from this overrated commercialized actor i would be surprised. son needs to listen to biggie 95 freestyle on repeat, take some notes and start livin up to some of this said “potential” he has.
If Mos and Black Thought weren’t rocking writtens there, they destroyed the competition. That was some deep shit.
The only people that can get away with the “I don’t care” vibe are Snoop and Jay. Everyone else better get animated like Busta Rhymes…
==================
Agreed. Regardless Em ripped it best and we all know by looking at the names alone that was going to happen.
Have you EVER heard Joe Budden? Not being excited about things like this is his trademark…I could see if it was M.O.P. or Mystikal via skype lol
Eminem killed it of course, Nicki Minaj is too animated for me
EM>BUDDENS>BLACK THOT>KRS ONE>MOS DEF> THEY KILLED IT
BUDDENS SAID “I LEVE EM IN DEEP REGRET LIKE THEY TILA TIQUILAS NECK”
WALE DISAPPOINTED ME BUT I STILL LIKE HIM AS A ARTIST
KRS One has an enormous nose, you could probably drive a Maybach right through it, with Bawse at the steering wheel.
Nicki surprised me…whether is was a freestyle, written or ghost-written…..
what everyone thought was annoying….I viewed it as her finally having a personality….won’t gel with a lot of people…but at least she is now setting herself apart other than “Young Money’s pass-a-hoe-around”…lol.
other than that…Eminem just bodied the cypher…Mos and Black Tnought prolly went over most people’s heads who were glued to the TV monitor…and Joey garnered the most “ooo’s” and “ahh’s”.
All around 3 solid cyphers…props to BET for giving KRS a “main-event” slot so to speak…and he delivered.
KRS-ONE seemed to be only truly freestyling…
Em > KRS > Joe > Mos > Black > I don’t care.
==========================================
LOL @ I don’t care. Joey had my favorite lines on there. The Serena line killed and when he said, “it’s cause I’m a student, not the teacher’s pet.” I was like: 8-0.
I read somewhere that what it is with Nicki is that she does not take herself too seriously, which is something I agree with. She has somewhat of a fun style to her so she plays with how she says stuff. Which I don’t see much harm in. But hopefully she doesn’t make this an every verse schtick, a la Lil’ Wayne on autotune.
“Wale was an embarrassment.”
========================================
The way he says his lines, to me, go over people’s heads. When people are looking for instant punches, he might not deliver automatically, but he still makes you go “Ah, Okay.” But he did sound very low on this one. I could barely hear him. Still got love for dude. Waiting for Attention Deficit.
thanks 4 the video/audio rips,
I was at the Jay-z concert in Baltimore.
J.cole N.e.r.d. and Wale aint have a problem down here lol
TSS=Major
Jesus’s write what da kid had in his brain, gillie write’s lil wayne’s verse who write’s Miss Minaj’s verses…
Thx God 4 That Nikki ! lol… even god knows that he’s the only responsable for her ass
krs killed it. a real teacha
lyrically #3 is the top. em/mos/thought. logical so !
mousebudden did it. it’s him. jump off joe beezy’s work
Mos and Black Tnought prolly went over most people’s heads who were glued to the TV monitor
=============================================
i agree, they both stayed away from the punchlines and rhymed their asses off
Nicki surprised me…whether is was a freestyle, written or ghost-written…..
what everyone thought was annoying….I viewed it as her finally having a personality….won’t gel with a lot of people…but at least she is now setting herself apart other than “Young Money’s pass-a-hoe-around”…lol.

Agreed. I thought she was pretty enjoyable actually.
I also thought Wale was terrible tho. I’m glad im not the only one. He blew it with that half-ass effort.
First listen….Mos > Em
Second Listen…Em > Mos
ALSO…. the contest winner from Brooklyn, can;t remember his name (crown royal, maybe?) he was dope as hell. Talk about animated, that dude was like a cartoon with dope lyrics
I thought Em’s flow was real weak at first, it picked up. I don’t see why everyone thinks he was the best. Mos, Black Thought, and especially KRS did their thing better. KRS man, a legend.
Ok this is the first time i think I’ve really heard Nicki Manaj, and I’m not a big fan of the lil wayne “metaphore heaven” style, but she does it for me with the animation. Therefore Manaj doing ghost written rhymes > Wayne doing ghost written rhymes.
Budden > the rest
