I’m man enough to admit when it comes to tying a tie, my success rate likely mimics Shaq’s career free throw percentage. Sure, get your laughs in now, but 80% of you probably have the ties with the knot still hanging up in your closet. I know I don’t. It’s not that I don’t know how, but you’ve got to give me a few attempts to get it right. On second thought, however, that pretty much means I fall in the “Ha-ha-you’re-23-and-in-grad-school-and-you-don’t-know-how-to-tie-a-tie” category. Hell yeah it’s a real category. Who knew?
Since I have another week to kill before class starts, this ranks as task numero uno on my “Shit To Do” list. With the help of my Aussie friends via YouTube, this here looks to be a fool proof plan. Seeing as how a great percentage of the country still doesn’t know how to pay bills online, I feel pretty confident that many could use a brush up on their tie tying skills.
Oh, in case you were wondering, Shaq’s career free-throw percentage is 52.8%.

tight !
Once you start grad school and interviews, it’ll be second nature…
I wear a tie as many as 4 times a week to work now and I worked at a mens formal wear store for 2 years in high school and college so I could do it with my eyes closed now. I’m a little shakey with my bow ties though.
I’d say I’m Chauncey Billups with the long ties and Shaq with the bow ties.
I couldn’t tie a bow tie if i had to. I’m A-1 on Windsors though.
One good thing about boarding school … had to learn to do that as a pre-teen for Sunday services.
I can tie a knot faster than the Martian can impregnate a vixen.
nothing like rocking a nice suit, fine shoes, french cuff shirts and a nice tie to top it off. for me, i like different knots for different shirts. i must also consider the occasion, the shirt/tie/knot i wear with a business suit is not the same as what i might do for an evening out that may require formal wear.
don’t feel bad about needing more than one attempt to get the knot right, it might take me three or four tries to get it just the way i want it. drives my girl crazy how particular i am about this kind of stuff.
Been tying ties way too long & I wear there about 5x a week more than I’d like.
i admit, i tied that bitch once and I’m good forever
any grown ass man (> 21) that doesn’t know how to tie a tie should kill themself. period.

This. I can tie a tie, but why untie it every time?

Cause you ruin the tie…

Nahh, not even. I value my life lol.
It’s like Oscar Wilde said: ‘A well-tied tie is the first serious step in life.’
I been knotting ties for a while now. You go to enough funerals and shit, you get that shit down perfect.
Still can’t tie a perfect bowtie.I just wear that shit around my neck untied and roll up my sleeves and then walk into the venue fronting like i was just in a fight outside.
Smoove twisted a Double-Windsor from memory mere moments ago…….Then hung it tied on a hook…
Whatever happened to “over, under, around and through”?
I need #ChrisBrownsBowTie. seriously. for my Halloween costume
When I was interviewing for jobs, I had to go to the internet to learn this.
Essential skill if you’re gonna work in an office. Clip-ons are for kids.
for me, ties = rarely. on the real, fuck my job’s dress code. I stroll up in that piece with Neon Air Max 95′s.
just had this issue yesterday.
i used to work at a movie theater while in college so i had to wear the same black die 5 days a week
There is truly nothing sexier than a man in a well knotted tie. Women see a nice tie and their minds travel in a weird direction that starts with a steady pay check and ends with babies. That said, I have imaginary babies about 200 times a day.
Women and pay checks….
I’m goin to a wedding tomorrow so it’s funny you posted this up. I know how to tie a tie already but still.
I used to tie my tie on the subway with my eyes closed for the fun of it.. Doubles and singles..
I never had the need for a bow tie, not formal events in my life.
Yo good looking out its 3 in the morning and my tie is looking fresh to def for the shenanigans (i mean wedding) tomorrow. Thanks J Tins
and this is why this is my favorite blog
I stay pretty steady with the over under and through method. I’ll have to try to step my game up and have a Windsor ready on Monday morning.
