Your Daily Funk: The Time

By S.Cadet / 09.11.09

I hit up Netflix the other night and saw that Purple Rain was available for Instant Viewing. I couldn’t remember the last time I saw the flick and it’s been on my oft-ignored to do list. so I dropped it in the queue and started it up. Sure, this is Prince’s motion picture and, yes, we’ll never forget how he got Apollonia to strip a half hour into the film. But The Time arguably stole the show on stage.

Purple Rain reminded me about The Time’s often forgotten contributions to funk. They tore it up with “Jungle Love” in the movie but I’ve always been partial to “777-9311″ off of What Time is It?. I came to the conclusion that the masses would be better off with both songs: a two for one deal if you will.

Now excuse me while I do the Morris E. Day shuffle.
