Obits: Roc Raida
DIGITAL NEWS By Gotty™ on September 19, 2009 at 5:34 pmAs the 2009 Summer of Death continues on, GM Roc Raida - legendary turntablist, member of The X-Ecutioners, DMC Hall Of Fame member & Busta Rhymes’ tour DJ - passed away earlier today, after suffering injuries in a car accident recently. At this point, the best thing that one can say is if you enjoy listening to & watching a DJ, this is one of the true DJ’s that you should thank.

R.I.P. Roc Raida
RIP Roc Raida.
Easily one of the greatest influences on me as a young DJ. Dude was funny as fuck too.
This here is one of my favourite Roc Raida routines - Ed OG “I Got To Have It” juggle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7fgCWaugFA&NR=1
Roc Raida and the X-Men aka X-Ecutioners were probably the first group of battle/performance deejays that I recall branching out into production and studio work.
You look on the album sleeves of artists like Show & AG, Artifacts, Common (Sense), Bush Babees, Kool G Rap to name a few.
Then you would see the names Dr Butcher, Mista Sinista, Diamond J, Roc Raida and the other X-Ecutioners.
X-Ecutioners, Beat Junkies, The 5th Platoon, Scratch Perverts and other crews during the 90s brought the turntable to the fore during ITF and DMC events.
Roc Raida was very much an integral part of the fabric, whether that be turntable tricks or lacing a phat beat.
Fella will be missed for sure, he was one of the good ones!
Another hero lost…..
Heaven’s having the GRANDEST party right about now….
Remember Roc Raider has the title of “Grandmaster.”
For dj’s that title is bestowed upon not taken. He was a knighted turntablist
‘Cause he was that damn good.
Sincere respect for the man.
ahhh, i forgot all about that commercial. Roc Raida, Zoo York Mixtape. Youtube that shit. IN 97 that was my intro to real turntablism. Glad I got to see Roc Raida live too. My favorite DJ of all time
word Teef.
him & JMJ are prolly smashin a set right now…
I thought he dies from complications from a ‘mixed martial arts’ accident? At any rate, R.I.P.
I was on stage with him several years ago when my boy Roctakon and the Goonies Crew performed along side the X-Men and the Turntable Technicians in Baltimore.
Roc Raida’s stage presence was truly second to none.
damn. what a shame. raida n nem will always have a place in my heart. X-ecutioners were my first foray into the world of turntablism. had all they albums, mixes, solo joints, etc. he will be missed. RIP.
Dude was going to be here in Hali with Busta tonight, show was postponed yesterday, nobody knew why… wek now now.
Such a shame.
R.I.P. Grandmaster Roc Raida…one of the best to ever do it. Thanks for the memories.
