“No More Words…”
GENERAL By Jesse H. on September 26, 2009 at 5:08 pmI’ve mentioned my fondness over this album before, particularly the musicality that Pete Rock brought to the project. So you can imagine my delight when this little goodie popped up in the inbox.
For the uninformed, INI was a Pete Rock-produced group consisting of emcees Rass, Rob-O, Grap Luva (Rock’s younger brother) and Marco Polo. If those names sound unfamiliar, its because they probably should. But guess what? Since it’s the instrumentals you don’t have to worry about that nagging problem of listening to the song and thinking “damn this beat is fire, but who the hell is this guy?” and thinking of other lyricists that would sufficiently tear the beat to shreds.
And as far as instrumentals go, this is a damn fine collection of beats, arguably some of the Soul Brother’s best work. Peep the wah-wah dreamy bounce of “Fakin’ Jax” or the trademark horn loop, chopped like only Pete Rock can on “To Each His Own.” Or the perfectly-tipsy at the party-spot vibe of “Props.” Or the pleasant-daydream strings and record scratches of “Step Up.” Or the- oh just download the damn thing already, I’ve already given you more words than the title of the post promised.

pete rock’s ‘group home’
Hahah good call Mark, cept I can’t even compare group home to this…
Can I say classic? Surely thats not too much to say for this one… It’s damn close if not!
Beginning another playthrough now after reading this!
@Mark, Group Home had dope beats, however, their lyrical prowess wasn’t up to par, their debut album is still a pretty solid listen though.
On the other hand InI, had dope beats and dope lyrics, the complete package.
If the album had dropped in 1996 like it was originally meant to have, then I have no doubt of the impact it would have had on the scene.
Unfortunately, Pete Rock & CL Smooth had split by then and for whatever reason, Elektra Records ended up dropping the Soul Brother Imprint from their roster, which meant the InI and Mecalicious projects never saw the light of day ‘officially’.
Center Of Attention and The Main Ingridient is probably Pete’s finest beats, the deep filtered basslines, and mellow jazz samples, awesome stuff.
Group Home reign supreme, comin’ thru with my team,
To all you faggot-ass niggas shinin’ infrared beams.
I love this album, I remember getting a copy of this on cassette back in 99 or 2000. I played the shit out of that tape.
Great production (even though 9th Wonder blows Pete away with his remix of Fakin Jax)
these posts are the shit. keep the beats comin.
