Jay is going to do numbers. Blueprint 3 is a major music event that is backed by major companies and a lot of dough. This is for all intents and purposes a mainstream album that features pop stars like Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Kanye West.
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II will most likely not do big numbers. It’s underground and as gritty as an album can get in this day and age. There aren’t any big moves to the radio. But nine out of 10 Hip-Hop heads are giving the grit face to their iPods listening to it.
These albums are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. Only one artist was asked to be on both: Nasir Jones.
This says a lot about the respect Nas has earned throughout his career. It also speaks to his body of work as a universally appreciated artist who can reach both sides of the tracks.
Unfortunately, Nas not showing up on either of those albums is a microcosm of the questionable decisions that have hampered his career. Think, only one artist would have been on the two biggest albums of 2009 and Nas seemingly missed the boat on both. Jay hinted that Nas would be on “Empire State of Mind” and Rae made public overtures to get Nas on his album in some capacity to relive the magic of “Verbal Intercourse.”
Still, no Nas. Of course, Nasty is understandably reeling from being cleaned out by Kelis, but damn, homie. These guest spots sure would help with cranking out those 40+ stacks a month, though.
Just think about how amazing it would have been to look back and think that Nas took place in both of these monumental pieces of work. Instead, this will just be another missed opportunity in a long list that has accumulated throughout Mr. Jones’ career.

Is that Gihad joint on Rae album the official version? Wasnt that on a ghostface album previously?
If Nas wasn’t involved in this Kelis mishap, then maybe things would’ve gone that way.
first, i don’t think jigga wanted nas on tha Empire track.. that was a internet rumor (i mean… tracklist imperfection) but yeah the chef
rae wanted so much that nas feat on his Part II ! but no probs, nasir
works on his Distant Relatives and probably his tenth solo album.. so maybe Nasir will be added on a remix for the Empire track. I promess that he will be on Rae’s Part III if raekwon is always open for that (lol) cuz nasir is the tenth n*gga in the wu tang since verbal intercourse !

@jaywest03
Ghide was previously leaked, few month ago.. with criminology 09 ! so
u probably think about that

that’s probably it… or he was smoked out… or Nardwar messed him up from that interview. Either way, him not being on these isn’t the worst thing. Plus like Gruems said, there’s always remixes.
now i can say for sure- OBFCL2>BP3
now i can say for sure- OBFCL2>BP3
Maybe he wasn’t interested. It ain’t by force…
whoa. crazy new site layout. this is gonna take a minute to get used to
I’d say we would know a bit more about nas if kelis wasnt trying to rob him.
IMO Nas has slipped into the background of hip hop like a few others should.
Jay’s still got it, same with redman and a few others but I struggle to hear big daddy kane rap again. It’s time to give so many others a chance and nas has grown man shit to work out now.
i need to manage nas…cause whoever is doing it ain’t making that cat do the shit he needs to do his for his career. so sad really…
yo out the subject, this new ss is fire, it was about time for change.. great layout! change is always good .. 0ne!!
1st off: LOL @ “Mouse” posting Rae & Jay’s links (no dick pictures). I think shit is hilarious when some “commenter” goes under a pseudonym with relation to the artist. I must be the only one catching this.
As far as Nas…he just seems sorta standoffish/lackadaisical/apathetic/passive in his approach to dealing with other artists sometimes. Like he’s in his own world. Kinda like how Grand Puba was notorious for running on CP time. Kinda disappointing. These opportunities aren’t guaranteed. Gotta take advantage of them while they present themselves. Appearing on both projects would’ve been a really good look for Nas.
As far as I can tell, nobody’s really checking for his collabo with Damian Marley or whoever, but I could be wrong, I just hope that the subject matter, execution AND beat selection/sonics/production is on point, whatever Nas’ next project is.
Hopefully I’ll like Rae’s joint. But then again His first one had to grow on me. and I’m still out of the loop on the whole high standards that it’s put on. Dah well.
i don0t like the web’s new format.. but anyway keepup with the nice work
im definitely looking out for the nas/damian collabo. but i agree Teef, you’d think there would be a lot more hype surrounding it. hope thats not a bad sign.
Nas on Cuban Linx would have been major, but I really don’t think he would have done much to hold BP3 together. I just hope OB4CL2 does reasonable numbers…maybe 50k range in the first week.
OB4CL2>BP3
When people/fans place you on a high pedestal it becomes a little difficult to live up to their acceptation. Especially when you are an original, talented, nd deep-rooted artist; unlike Jay-z, an artist that stole styles, materials, beats, nd careers just to get on top). NaS came out with multiple classic albums (in my opinion) that fans have became to lean on. Yes he still is a human being that have had mishaps, misfortunes, nd downfalls in his life. Nas been hinting at the fact that he wants to do more spiritual music since his lauryn hill collabo, his God Son’s lp, nd his belly movie. Kind of like this website has to develop, reconstruct, nd evolve to stay relevant NaS already did the hardcore shit since he was 14-16 years of age. Now if he doesnt feel the need to do tracks with artists that came into the game in their late twenties, Rae may have been in his early to mid twenties, than why cant we (as true fans) accept this decision when he did everything in his career that we asked of him:
He did the gangsta rap.
He did the trap rap.
He did the r&b rap.
He did the posse remixes.
He did the club rap.
He did the dumb-it-down rap.
He did the gettin jiggy rap.
He did the down-south rap.
He did the signing to major cliques/labels.
He did the commercial rap.
He did the militant rap
He did the millennium rap.
good write up D
i need to manage nas…cause whoever is doing it ain’t making that cat do the shit he needs to do his for his career. so sad really…
====================================================================
Word… with all the shit that he’s been going through lately, he should have plenty of material to write about.
nas lost.
New layout’s on some grown shit. It looks happy in here now that it is so bright. That’s a good thing. I’ll me the old joint. But hey, niggas gotta move on!
As for Nas….I keep sticking up for him in here, when y’all try to clown him on him on his beat selection. But this here, I have no rebuttal for. Damn, my bad Nasir!
OB4CL2 is not the classic some are making it out to be. As for BP3, it’s not as bad as advertised. The expectations of fans is playing a part in how these albums will be viewed. Some of the beats on both aren’t A+ material, but Jay’s getting too much flack concerning it.
i never understood why cats say he picks bad beats either
maybe its becasue the unreleased joints in his catalog are better then the released shit…
but i have enjoyed the beats on his albums for the most part and thats from a beat head some one who obsesses about production in the music more then the lyrics.
isn’t nas near done with an album with himself and damien marley
keyword is near.
Album was supposed to be released in june, and when I saw their set at rock the bells they did 2/3 tracks from it, which makes me think there’s still a lot of work to do. Damian killed it though.
i dont kno man…i was itchin to hear nas on any one of em…
but i hear ob4cl2 was doin numbers on itunes…and was no.1 over bp3… shit has moved down now but i hope raekwon gets 200k
yo Nasir been there 4a whle man if tha dawg call’s it done then let’s respect dat from him
But i strongly feel that his coming out soon just wants us 2get talkin
or maybe his just taking his time
Too bad Nas decided not to participate on OB4CL II and I think that the god was just burned by the Kellis and his project pressure. He might not feel at the top of his game to perform on such a classic and expected album. However the God might have his own reasons why it was just not the best time for him. On the other hand, I think that other rappers really might not have been there, like Roc-A-Fella affiliated Memphis Bleek or JadaKiss just sound odd to be on a Wu classic like this.
I would have preffer Masta Killa to do a show up or U-God just like they did on Glacier of Ice. Wu is hungry and you giving a feast to the wack emcee’s.
Same for fabulous on that Ghostdini what?
