I decided to brave the ill-travelled paths of my iPod before I took it down last night. I checked my Eminem discog and found “Scary Movies” tucked away under Relapse. So naturally I clicked on it and zoned out.
“Scary Movies” just goes to show that dope rhymes always stand the test of time. The song also captures two then-new and hungry rappers in Eminem and Royce Da 5’9” vying for lyrical supremacy. Sure, rap is in a different place now and I accept that. But you’d be hard pressed to find any new cats that could rhyme as well as Royce and Em did over ten years ago.

Then I ran back Em and Royce’s 12 minute freestyle and damn near lost my mind. Moments like these make you think of what could’ve been had Bad Meets Evil panned out. They were more than capable of dropping a classic album at that point with the right team behind the boards. But as many of you know, beef between D12 and Royce got in the way of history. They’ve patched up their differences since then which is always good to see. But with all things considered it’s a gross understatement to suggest both camps missed a golden opportunity.

Running back these cuts along with Slaughterhouse’s cameo in the “Forever” video really makes the rap nerd in me crave for some Bad Meets Evil on Relapse 2. Hell the least we could get is a Em x Slaughterhouse loosie. I’m not holding my breath for an album but I’ll be more than content with some features here and there. So if anyone up at the Iovine Tower is reading this (doubt it but here it goes) please get Marshall and Nickel Nine in the studio. Their people need to make this possible for all of our sakes.

I always wished that Bad v Evil project would have came to pass.
Scary movie used to be my shit. classic
Em’s verse always makes me laugh!
Bugged-out & absurd imagery…
Who had the best verse on Scary Movie? Also who won the 12 minute battle?
TSS, Discuss! (c) Mike Myers
both of ‘em gave clinics on rhyme patterns
Em has the better verse cuz he painted pictures that you’re not likely to forget anytime soon.
Where’s “Nothin’ to Do?”
@ Teef
Thing is I feel like Royce’s verse is slept on cause it’s not as “adventurous” as Em’s. But it’s still raw and has some nice patterns as you said. Half the time I go back on forth on who out-rhymed who. Still in most cases I go with Marshall’s verse since it’s so wild in general.
Don’t get me started on the freestyle though haha.
@ Sam – in my opinion, Royce’s delivery seems very technique-driven, whereas Marshall’s is content-driven, if that makes any sense.
they use similar structures & patterns. It’s like they’re doing the same steps in a dance routine, but Royce is “sticking to the script” while Shady is adding his own little flair & flavor to it.
They’re both incredible wordsmiths to me, but Em has always been more engaging & has more of a personality.
Between those 2 & Elzhi, you’d be hard-pressed to find 3 other guys who can out-rhyme them.
@ Teef
Word I see what you’re saying. Also I agree that Elzhi, Em, and Royce are definitely the best rappers from Detroit that I’ve heard.
That reminds me whatever happened to Obie Trice?
yo can someone post the bad meets evil demo with all the tracks please?
I think I’ll be listening to the Slim Shady LP after reading this post. I haven’t visited that album in quite some time.
Hopefully if Slaughterhouse joins Shady Records, the Bad Meets Evil project will get some daylight finally.
prolly vodka in both those bottles.
still got my copy of this on vinyl
them covers used to be the shit but this one was always the best song and cover to me….
throwback record time blast right there…
bunch of tylenol fall asleep in he mall
fart sniffle sneeze into cough..
Still 2 of my favourite trakcs outright, fantastic post
Scary Movies: Em > Royce
12 Minute Freestyle: Royce > Em
My favourite scary movie is probably The Exorcist.
My least favorite scary movie is the porno with Paw’s Mom, bless her heart
Teef, I think you got your facts mixed up, think you are referring to the episode where your mother who abandoned you as a child tracked you down on Facebook, and you raped her, or was it the other way around?
Good luck with the trial, I hope it all works out for you fella. ;)
@ Paw that sounds like a terrible movie based on real life events sir.
