eminem

Point blank, when he wants to be, Eminem could very well be the best rapper alive. No disrespect to Jay. No disrespect to Nas. No disrespect to Andre 3000. No disrespect to Weezy. Hell, no disrespect to any artist who believes they hold the crown. But, as always, I’ll call a spade a spade when I see one. I’m not asking anyone to agree with me, rather I simply use TSS as an outlet to vent my musical feelings. Good or bad.

Marshall’s “Alchemist Freestyle” has been in rotation from the moment it dropped and single handedly caused my anticipation for Relapse 2 to be higher than a Freddie Gibbs studio session. Jokes aside, it was the Em I came to appreciate throughout the course of the past decade. Pure, unadulterated, uncut lyrical venom. Sure, killing people and posing naked with their dead bodies (||) is odd to say the least, but grotesque shit aside, this was proof (no pun intended) M&M is still a force to be reckoned with. His flow on this record was flawless and I dare you to name a rapper who can compete with 8 Mile’s own in that category. Maybe I’m on overload from listening to this 15 times during one trip home from class the other night, but it’s one of those record which give you the bitter beer face.

All I could do is nod my head and continue to stand in amazement as the words spewed over the dark, Alchemist creation in near effortless succession. Looking back, those three little women probably thought I was derranged the way my face was scrunched up. Quite honestly, I could give a fuck less. I really wish I could pick a standout bar from the entire track, but you’d be better off convincing Gotty™ that Boosie is ass (he isn’t by the way). Between this, his ode to Mariah and his showing on “Forever”, the real Slim Shady has stood up.

Where this ranks in relation to this, I’ll save that for another TSS therapy session.
