Point blank, when he wants to be, Eminem could very well be the best rapper alive. No disrespect to Jay. No disrespect to Nas. No disrespect to Andre 3000. No disrespect to Weezy. Hell, no disrespect to any artist who believes they hold the crown. But, as always, I’ll call a spade a spade when I see one. I’m not asking anyone to agree with me, rather I simply use TSS as an outlet to vent my musical feelings. Good or bad.
Marshall’s “Alchemist Freestyle” has been in rotation from the moment it dropped and single handedly caused my anticipation for Relapse 2 to be higher than a Freddie Gibbs studio session. Jokes aside, it was the Em I came to appreciate throughout the course of the past decade. Pure, unadulterated, uncut lyrical venom. Sure, killing people and posing naked with their dead bodies (||) is odd to say the least, but grotesque shit aside, this was proof (no pun intended) M&M is still a force to be reckoned with. His flow on this record was flawless and I dare you to name a rapper who can compete with 8 Mile’s own in that category. Maybe I’m on overload from listening to this 15 times during one trip home from class the other night, but it’s one of those record which give you the bitter beer face.
All I could do is nod my head and continue to stand in amazement as the words spewed over the dark, Alchemist creation in near effortless succession. Looking back, those three little women probably thought I was derranged the way my face was scrunched up. Quite honestly, I could give a fuck less. I really wish I could pick a standout bar from the entire track, but you’d be better off convincing Gotty™ that Boosie is ass (he isn’t by the way). Between this, his ode to Mariah and his showing on “Forever”, the real Slim Shady has stood up.
Where this ranks in relation to this, I’ll save that for another TSS therapy session.

completely agree with everything said.
this makes me really happy. with eminem, jay, hopefully soon outkast, rae, dmx’s return, ghost, jada, snoop, and a very few others, it seems that good artists are returning to the forefront. thank god too. i think we are well overdue for quality, non-snappin,non-trappin,non-tuning artists.

Yzzir Em is a monster. He’s one of those rappers that you have to respect when he’s not on his BS. People may not like him for whatever reason but you can’t fake on his mic skills.
May and September 09 have been the best months in rap for awhile.
pass
Um… nah.
Tim Westwood got to be pushing 60 now, surely?
But this is dope, I like the way we get visuals now with BBC Radio.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but I need to drop a request.
If anybody has a quality mp3 rip of Evelyn “Champagne” King ‘Give It Up’ PLEASE can you hook me up?
It’s from the Fright Night soundtrack, and here is a audio link to it, in case your memory needs jogging. Thanks in advance, peace and I’m out:-

Couldn’t have said it better.
Killing,Pills,Mother,Kim…alittle over it..Em no doubt is a dope MC..but best alive?..nah…top 20?..umm..sure….not diverse enough imo compared to Jay,Nas,Andre..peace
@ J.
Except I could’ve spelled “Yessir” correctly, got it wrong even with two Z’s haha.
If NAS is the Edgar Allen Poe of Hip Hop then Eminem is the Stephen King, his visual descriptions are graphic, and leave a stain on the brain like a fingerprint.
He single handedly kept the concept of horrorcore alive and I don’t think there are many rappers out there right now, or in years gone by that can come close to his style.
There are different strains of rap, Rakim is the king of his strain, NAS is the king of his strain and Eminem is the king of his strain.
BBC radio >>>>>>>>>>> any other national public radio
Am I wrong
I’d be hard pressed (||) to find a single track on that Alchemist cd I LIKED.
Marshall is one of the illest doing it, hands down, but I bet you’d have to search hard to find Relapse in alot of blogger’s Top 5 albums of 09.
Cats hate on Em cause he’s a white boy. Let’s be real. I don’t even care about the “Slim Shady” shtick, there’s no way you can honestly listen to that album and not be impressed by Em’s lyricism.
real talk amp.
and i agree the alchemist cd sucked
@ Amp
Yeah it’s a shame people already forgot about Relapse. Some people genuinely don’t like his style but the white boy hate is so tired whenever it comes up.
Petey thinks he’s too good to Worm anymore.
sellout.
lol
it’s funny that you picked this freestyle it’s one of his dopest I’ve had it for a few months
I’m checking the exposure of photos of me exposing
Myself locked inside of a cosie hotel posing
With or without clothing
Next to the decomposing, bodies erroding
While I’m dozing off, overdosing
Windows open and shutting, doors open and closing
I think there’s a ghost, too much hydrocort in the codine
I was only suppose to swallow a half, I took the whole thing
I’m not joking, I think I just snorted my nose ring
I need a drink, I’m standing over the sink posing
Myself self loathing, cause I’m on the brink. Mostly,
I don’t wanna think. ‘This will make everything rosie’
Beverly sings. Scream while I sever 3 toesies
Totally frozen when I close in, I’m yodeling “Rosie, would you come out to play”
I think there’s a ghost, too much d
the wordplay is sick…literally. lol
eminem is and would never be the greatest rapper alive, probably greatest white rapper alive
Excuse the echo, but Em don’t want it with Monch.
Em’s a beast though.
Thanks… I’ll take this … Eminem definitely still has it.
Relaspe is easily Em’s worst album… and one of my least favorite of 2009.
… Oh yeah… the Alchemist album was poo-poo.
Man this freestyle was sick, still find myself bumping it even after it was released a couple of months ago. Em should of gotten this beat instead of slaughterhouse.
Uh I can think of at least 5 British guys better than Eminem.
Here’s one of em:

I’ve been listening to this freestyle for a couple of months now and my reaction is still the same…..
“Mama, there goes that man!!” © Mark Jackson
As far as which is better (This Freestyle or “Got It Twisted” Freestyle), overall (flow, riding the beat, cadence, breath control, rhyming multiple syllables) this one might be a tad bit better…. which is scary b/c the “Got It Twisted” Freestyle came out in 2004 and 98% of rappers TODAY can’t come up with a performance like that
eminem has the best wordplay ever
Pure fucking stannery. All this dude talks about is killing people as if he is a serial killer and getting fucked in the ass. L!!!!
Em can be crazy good. CAN BE.
He needs a out-of-the-box producer to just challenge him with crazy beats.
No disrespect to Dr.Dre, but I think they both need to move on.
If Alchemist produced a whole Em-album and it didn’t contain the crappy singlesong which he always makes, then there you go… Classic material.
quite frankly no. this argument gets killed by the fact that he doesn’t have any albums that can stand with the certified hip hop classics. Eminem has brilliant moments like the above but many sub-par ones too… lately too many. Evebody alredy acts like the first relapse didn’t happen. I recognize his immense skill but also that he is an underachiever. Nas and Jay are better well rounded artists and rappers overal because they can diversify thier subject matter.
meh- em was never as nice as pun or big l and to say he’s top 5 is really outta pocket but i respect the opinion.
In response to the title. No, he doesn’t still have it. Eminem hasn’t released either a decent single or album since the Marshall mathers LP almost a decade ago.
He fell off. Hard.
No-one is doubting his skills (or potential skills) but no artist can create as many bad songs as Eminem has and still be considered one of the greatest, in my humble opinion of course.
I’m glad the last few kats that posted have some fucking sense. No one doubts his RAPPING ability but when you put him next to the G.O.A.T.’s, you have to use SUBJECT MATTER as a HUGE deciding factor. Marshall lies errr I mean raps about the same BULLSHIT over and over again.
And to the kat that said he’s the best white MC ever……naw bruh…that title belongs to Haystak.
I think that it’s hilarious to read all of these people’s comments who hate on Eminem, saying he doesn’t have it anymore, or that he isn’t even the best white rapper, let alone the best rapper alive…Haystak? ROFL. Gimme a break! Hayfag is GARBAGE as hell, and to even try and compare him with em’s skills is RIDICULOUS beyond belief…..you may try to hate because he’s rich (and you aren’t), or he gets women (and you don’t), etc., etc, but to say that he isn’t one of the top 3 best hip hop artists of all time is just you lying to yourself. Em’s a living legend, and no group of haters will ever change that. Keep fooling yourselves, you KNOW he’s raw. Peace Haters.
