Donny Goines’ Fave Five
ARTIST INTERVIEWS By TC on September 1, 2009 at 2:39 pmThe untimely passing of filmmaker John Hughes shed significant light on what actually constituted as a great movie. Just glancing at his filmography, it was clear that he was he was a mastermind in capturing the joy and pains of societal American culture for the silver screen. In the realm of Hip-Hop, few have demonstrated an appreciation for this so quickly than Donny Goines. After all, his latest album, the stellar The Breakfast Club, borrows its title from one of the director’s most revered creations. Intrigued, TSS wanted to know how deep the level of sophistication was in Mr. Goines DVD collection.
“An 80’s classic near and dear to my heart. I actually cried when I saw them goons beat on Johnny 5. I was a kid you know (Laughs) But the movie is one that has always been a favorite.”
“Did you seriously think I would make a list of my favorite movies and not add this? (Laughs). Rest in peace to John Hughes. The brilliance of this movie to me was it’s simplicity. Accurately depicting the portrayal of very serious issues that went on in any High School U.S.A. and, although funny and entertaining at times, really showcasing the teenage angst we all faced. Classic.”
“This movie is some real trippy shit right here. The thing I really loved about this one was the no-nonsense depiction of young addicts struggling with the issues of drugs. Although at times lighthearted, this movie hit a nerve with me mainly because I understand how it feels to be trapped in a daze of drug use as a teenager. Great movie.”
“Seriously, this movie made me shed a few tears (and I was a grown man when I saw it!) The story was that deep. Parkinson’s Disease (The most famous person to be diagnosed was Micheal J. Fox) is a serious affliction, and Robert De Niro executed his role as a patient in the hospital brilliantly. Robin Williams also did a great job as well. All around amazing movie. Check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.”
“This is by far the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life. I really can’t even begin to explain the range of emotions and intense storyline displayed in this movie, but suffice it to say it’s my favorite for a reason. To me it’s a story of acceptance and the truths in it parallel life so authentically to me. It details an alcoholic who decided to drink himself to death in Las Vegas. Along the way he meets a prostitute who accepts the path he chose and they begin a relationship which ended in a tragic way. My favorite of all time.”
Keep it locked at The Suicide Blogger for all of Donny’s constant bombs in the industry and be sure to download his sophomore album The Breakfast Club.

terrible movies.
LOL at yall deleting the auto post. It was that bad huh?
Anyone remember the 80’s movie “Explorers” with River Phoenix & Ethan Hawke? I friggin’ LOVED that flick as a kid.
Doesn’t hold up today (the final 3rd is just horrible) but it still holds a certain amount of nostalgia for me when I watch it.
Well I’ll respect his fresh, because we all got movies that are personally close to our hearts.
Take me for example, Rocky 4 is right up there on my list, that movie (along with Miami Vice the tv series) defined 80s pop culture and all that would follow.
The glossy training montages, the totally rocktastic soundtrack, slick camera angles, slow motion shots, everything and the kitchen sink.
Yeah Rocky 4 changed movie making and music video making forever.
The fight between Ivan Drago and Rocky Balboa is the stuff of dreams, I’ve seen this movie countless times and it still gets me amped.
Cinema Par Excellence.
@Ampgeez, yeah man! Explorers is a Joe Dante classic, where they all build a spaceship and encounter those extra terrestrials, for rilla!
River Phoenix and Ethan Hawke are so young in that one, man I love that film and also Flight of the Navigator as well, jeah!

Flight Of The Navigator is getting revamped next year. I loved that flick as a kid lol.
There are tons of crappy 80’s flicks, but there are a good number of classics too.
I was on a karate kick months after I saw the OG “The Karate Kid” lol.
Mr. Miyagi was that dude!
All time top five:
1. The Exorcist
2. Halloween (John Carpenter’s)
3. The Thing (John Carpenter’s)
4. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
5. Seven

What??? They remaking Flight of the Navigator, oh man, well actually that might be interesting.
The Karate Kid just like Rocky 4, I never get tired of watching, over and over and over again.
The Goonies as well, stone cold classic.
Remember, Labyrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly? Oh man that is awesome too!
Gremlins as well, aaaaaahhh gizmooooo! :)

Triple sizzle!!
Goonies & Gremlins will never get old. Both are certified classics.
Labryrinth & Legend (w/ Tom Cruise) are kinda slept on but are both equally out there & entertaining.
The Lost Boyz >>>
Brewster’s Millions is another fave of mine that’s getting remade.
Hollywood has officially run out of ideas.
The Lost Boys, yep, yep, I’m gonna dig out the DVD this weekend, and watch it again, stone cold classic. The two Corey’s, Kiefer Sutherland and a kick ass soundtrack.
You remember another vampire flick from the 80s called Fright Night, where that teenager suspects his new neighbour is a vampire and it turns out to be true. The special efx are awesome, still hold up today.
Brewster’s Millions remake as well? Yikes! Yeah the original with Pryor and John Candy is very enjoyable indeed.
I think the first movie to effect me emotionally was Stand By Me, they were kids coming of age and it struck a chord back then, great film.
You mark my words they will eventually remake Jaws, nothing is sacred in Hollywood anymore. Michael Bay almost got his mits on a remake of Rosemary’s Baby, you can’t remake stuff like that, surely?
Yo, I need 5 people who wanna be in a fantasy league with 9th Wonder on ESPN, draft tonight at 8:00. Email your email addresses to me @ lakersfanman33@gmail.com
No bullshit.
The most famous person to be diagnosed was Micheal J. Fox
