Dame Dash Presents The Black Roc Project
AUDIO By Corey Bloom on September 19, 2009 at 1:14 pmNever in my most intoxicated imagination would I have imagined that Dame Dash and The Black Keys would link up to do a project. The way Dame tells the story it makes sense though and it’s actually pretty ingenious. The Black Keys music really is that addictive and with the heavy drums and sonic rawness that their sound is based on it’s prime for some Rap cats to catch wreck. I always thought they should be doing little side projects with rappers — sorta like how Ratatat did their mixtapes — and I’m glad someone of Dame’s stature was the first to bring it to life. Recorded in eleven days, the album features a mean list of artists: Billy Danze, Raekwon, Pharoah Monch and others.
And it will probably be really fucking good. How could it not?

Please don’t sleep on the Black Keys. They’re last album, Attack & Release was all mixed by Dangermouse, and I’m extremely anxious to see what kind of sound some REAL hip-hop guys give to their already addictive style. Check out their albums, “Thickfreakiness” and “Chualoma”. Those two are my personal favorites, although “Rubber Factory” and “Magic Potion” are no slouches either.
the black keys are the shit! i strongly suggest checking out some of their songs like ‘i got mine’ ‘your touch’ ’strange desire’ ‘grown so ugly’ ‘psychotic girl’ ‘the breaks’
i got all the albums they have and you can just put the cd in and push play all songs are bad ass. cant wait for black roc!
Was all looking good until I checked out their website and was faced with a home page that dedicated as much space to promoting “The official BlackRoc Chevy Camaro” as it did the outfit or the music.
Fuck ‘em. Srsly.
This is the type collabo we need. Something with substance , feeling and deep rooted funktified soul with no color barriers.. Type of ish that makes your skin buzzz. I call it the funny bone feeling…… Nice work Mr Dash and Co…..
In terms of the marketing and whoring thee self for the promotion and creation of something substantial and relevant…
You need cash to make splash
If you like this then you’ll love Black Steel Rose, a hard rock band from LA mixing things up with a black R&B style singer. They came out of nowhere and rocked Bamboozle last year and were deemed “ones to watch” by a New York radio station.
