cee-lo-14

If you don’t respect Cee-Lo Green’s musical talents, or shall I say ‘perfect imperfections‘, there’s a slim chance I may lose respect for you musically. Since I’ve always wanted to craft a post on ‘Lo, I figured now would be as good a time as ever, especially with Goodie Mob planning a reunion next month. Before some kid from Toronto, one of the first rapping/singing sensations was the man who resembled the real life version of “Kirby.” While riding home from the other night, I popped in my go-to-mix entitled, “After Work CD,” which I normally use for alleviating the stresses of the job. Needless to say, the three that took me the entire way home all included Cee-Lo.

For the record, the trio of tracks all feature Cee-Lo, harmonizing as a guest artist. These are some of the most relaxing tracks you can listen to and the energy he brings to each is on some next level shit. Pause.

Estelle Feat. Cee-Lo – “Pretty Please (Love Me)”

Personally, I liked Estelle’s Shine album and this was one of main reasons why. I’m such a huge fan of Cee because he never jumps on a track which doesn’t compliment his talents. This fast-paced Jack Splash creation seemed almost tailor made for the man who helped make Dungeon Family, Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley household names. It’s perfect to listen to when the windows are down and you’re getting off work. I’ve caught myself singing this in my car down the freeway. Sure, I’ve caught a few odd looks but I could care less. It’s nothing like music you can completely lose yourself in.

P$C Feat. Cee-Lo – “Walk This Way”

25 To Life still ranks as disgustingly underrated album and, for the life of me, I’m lost as to why this song was never a single. Between poetics from T.I. and MacBoney (both of whom ripped their verses), Cee-Lo’s soulfulness is on full display. This track is the sole reason why I hope and pray Tip and Cee-Lo link up again sometime in the future to spawn more records together.

Outkast Feat. Cee-Lo, Erykah Badu & Big Rude – “Liberation”

There really aren’t words to describe this one. Whenever Outkast, Cee-Lo and Badu jump on the same track, anything less than amazing is considered a failure. Ranging almost ten minutes in length, the song allowed each artist to leave their impact in their own significant way. This included Cee-Lo laying down what sounded like a modern day Negro spiritual. One of the all-time best tracks to “zone out” to, in my opinion.

There are plenty of other songs I could have (and probably should have) mentioned, but this will suffice for now. Kudos to David D. who indirectly influenced me.
