The iPod Shuffle - “Mind Over Matter”
AUDIO By Gotty™ on August 6, 2009 at 9:52 pmBefore he started gettin’ TV checks and being overshadowed by his wife’s posterior, Ice was pretty crafty with his delivery and wordplay on the mic. Capable of going fast or slow, as heard on “Mind Over Matter,” he always had pointed & powerful thoughts.
And he also had “L.G.B.N.A.F.” too.
Then again, this was all circa ‘91 or prior.
Okay, so maybe Rap is okay without him now. But he did have his share of good albums & was one of the original torchbearers for Gangsta Rap.

Wait.. so Fin used to rap?!
LOL! This song is dope, but why it sound like he’s reading his rhymes? HAha
In ways, you can hear ghostwriting. But his delivery on the other track and songs like “O.G.” you can’t manufacture that shit. He could change the pace of his flow pretty easily & it still sound good.
I was never much into Tracy. But then again I was born in 83. This joint is fresh.
A gangsta’s life ain’t fun.
I think Ice was one of the more conscious emcees out there.
Seriously.
If you think about it, most all of Ice’s most beloved songs—6 In The Morning, Colours, OG, New Jack Hustler, High Rollers, etc.—the bad guy always either died or got locked up in the end. The wrong choices were never rewarded long-term with Ice–no matter who did his writing.
Not even most of our era’s so-called conscious rappers can make that claim.
Tracy was never the swiftest-tongued cat. He never totally slaughtered any opponent, never killed a track to the point of scaring anybody else from taking a swing at it, but dude had a nice little lane and rode it till his off ramp came.
And again, I think he deserves a lot more credit for being a much better emcee than he gets.
“rode it till his ramp came.”
Very accurate sir.
I think his first 3-4 albums were solid as hell. It all went wrong on the train wreck that was Body Count.
But look @ it this way…
- always had legendary album covers
- always had a bad broad
- that .38 Special medallion he wore was one the meanest pieces of its time
- he always had a bad broad lol.
- he moved on & made his mark elsewhere.
That’s a helluva career.
Ice was dope when I was comin up as a youngster..classic pic as well…
“Cops hate kids, kids hate cops, cops kill kid’s with warnin’ shouts
What is crime and what in not?what is justice?I think I forgot
We buy weapons to keep us strong
Reagan sends guns where they don’t belong
The controversy is thick and the drag is strong
But no matter the lies we all know who’s wrong…..”
dope shit…….
Opened up the acting game for rappers, too. He been doing that for damn near 30 years, too.
Reckless with Chris ‘The Glove’ Taylor is still f-f-fresh!
Ice-T has had a damn good run and he is still going strong. I will give him a Mulligan for Body Count. lol
G you stay killin me with the shuffle posts. Favorite Ice-T song ever. SO ILL.
darlene > current snowbunny
Darlene was one of the first bad non-black chicks you saw a rapper with. Coco is, well, I dunno. She’s gettin’ kinda Bratz-ish lookin these days. You just knew she wasn’t gonna age too well. Coco’s like a runnin’ back–you supposed to hang that up after 5-7 years. But I’ll give credit for stickin’ wit him even thru his lean years. Then again, Darlene was with T when he was nobody.
At some point (in the next 2-3 yrs) Coco will be caca. And Darlene will still be lookin’ good tho.
