The iPod Shuffle - “Final Hour”
AUDIO By Gotty™ on August 16, 2009 at 8:49 pmIn my household, specifically the bathroom, the lady’s iPod is the one that does the shuffling. Therefore, she’s really the one to thank for this post. It’s not really a debate because her iPod is filled with roughly twenty standard, albums from late 90’s/early 2000’s. As I was la-di-da-di’ing in the mirror gettin’ dressed, L-Boogie came up & I unconcscioulsy listened along. The closer I listened, I kept thinking “Is this new Lauryn?”
Of course it wasn’t.
But Lord, with all the heat on The Miseducation…, I think I always overlooked the aggressiveness of L’s flow on “Final Hour.” Raw like sushi, word to Neneh Cherry.

Dude… the Fugees in general are done. :(
Now I’ma get the mozzarella like a Rockerfeller/Still be in the church of Lalibela/Singing hymns a cappella/Whether posed in Maribella in Couture/Or/Collectin residuals from off The Score…
Dopest line on the album
The Fugees were done once Clef gave the peen to L.

I don’t know I saw her just last year at a free show in BK and I was blown away by her and most of her new stuff.
I think “The Passion” shows shes still creating amazing music its just not the same as Miseducation.
Another example is “Lose Myself” I wasn’t feelin the studio version but live it was a completely different version than the one Disney released and it showed she might not aesthetically be the same L we remember and she might not be creating the same radio friendly catchy tracks as the L we remember but shes every single bit as talented musically and vocally as the L we remember and the L we need more of. I think a come back is in the near future if the record company realizes shes not going back to Miseducation so they need to let her grow and just release what shes giving them.

Because Pras got jealous lol
Never been sold on her…..guess I’m by myself on this one but….2 of my top 5 overrated are her as an emcee and her as a singer.
^ is dude serious
Not Hearing L makes my heart hurt
Lauryn Hill = Dogma
After her crazy performance at Wingate park I knew the L boogie we knew and loved is GONE. Thank God for J.Period’s Best of Lauryn.
Messing with an Ipod in the bathroom gives new meaning to this song is my SHIT

I was at the same show (and it was in 2007) and I completely agree about Lose Myself. GREAT live.
^^2007? DAMN. I’m terrible with time. Everything is last year or last month in my mind.
@ Bigga,
did u stay for the whole show? I’m glad she started off the way she did so all the “I want L to perform The Score and Miseducation just like it sounds on the LP” could leave. its been a decade plus let an artist do the songs how they choose. Shes only performed those tracks the same a million times its time to move on.

As much as I enjoyed Miseducation I think it was an overrated album. But I dont think Lauryn as an emcee or singer is/was overrated. I could see how back in the day some could argue the singing part but never the emcee part.
Nina:
I broke out when she started to whisper in the mic and she turned her back to the crowd.
