Hustler’s Remorse…
AUDIO By MZ on August 14, 2009 at 10:49 pm
“…Rapper’s is talkin’ to me as if (c’mon)
We in the same boat
I tell them quick, no I move coke (Uh Uh)
And you and I don’t share no common bonds
So forgive me if I don’t receive you with open arms (No)
It shames me to no end
To feed poison to those that could very well be my kin
But when there’s demand, someone will supply
So I feed them their needs, at the same time cry
Yes it pains me to see them need this
All of ‘em lost souls and I’m their Jesus
Deepest regret is sympathy to the streets
I’ve seen ‘em pay for their fix when their kids couldn’t eat (So sorry)
And with this in mind, I still didn’t quit
And that’s how I know that I ain’t shit (I ain’t shit)
My heart grieve, but that’s aside from the fact
I live for my kids & theirs & their youngin’s after that.”
Malice from “I’m Not You” off the album Lord Willin’
Like most people growing up in the ‘80s I’ve seen the effects the crack game had on my family from both sides. So as much as I enjoy the “coke rap” genre of Hip-Hop, it sometimes rings hollow when only the viewpoint of the successful hustler is portrayed. I understand that you have to lose your conscience to a degree for any realistic chance to succeed in the dope game, but at the end of the day your still human.
That’s why Malice’s succinct, yet powerful verse on “I’m Not You” has always stuck with me. The picture that he painted is so vivid that I had no doubt his words were true. Regardless of whether it was first or second-hand account, it was evident he had some experience on his side. Although he and Pusha dropped little barbs throughout the album letting listeners know the game isn’t a bowl of cherries, this verse lingers with you well after the songs over.

We Got It 4 Cheap Vol. 2 “Ultimate Flow”
Malice’s verse still hits me hard.
yall are making me want to take this shit out the shoe box. was it that long ago?
Has that song leaked that plays @ the beginning of dude’s vlogs? The joint where P’s singin something like “the things I seen last night, made my life change, made my life change…”
Negative
I agree with everything you said about this track. Its just an all out classic. This site is def a good look, Ive been an avid viewer for 2 years now. Your broad range of topics makes it my 1st stop when i go online.
Gotty, I’ve been waiting for that song for so long. Sounds like it’s dope.
As for the verse, insanely good. Ultimate Flow is amazing too. Gotta say, they’re kinda underrated. Everyone knows they do the drug rap thing, and do it well. But some of their songs just make you sit back and say “…damn”.
I love that verse. This is why Malice is my favorite Clipse member. Pusha has the braggadocio and slick lines on lock, but when it comes to raw depth, Malice knows exactly what to say. Case in point, his verse on “Keys Open Doors.” All I can say for that is SWEET HAY-ZEUSSSSSS!
off subject but I love the clipse skilled brothers in deed, but hey I have been looking for rick ross deeper than rap the instrumental cd and everytime I pull up a megaupload link its dead so can someone please help me out and provide a working link
thanks in advance
tss is major!!!
Just saw Clipse live in Minneapolis an hour ago and now I’m here and this is up, Pusha and Malice killed it.
@ Rawsee
Sandman had the hardest verse on “Ultimate Flow”
^
Yessir. Sandman bodied ultimate flow
Clipse truly are one of the best duos ever….
Classic music/albums, they get overlooked because of the “coke rap” tag but Push and Mal are so much more… the pure visceral nature of their raps; straight up nihilism delivered with them small doses of underlying morality is what separates them from the rest.
Anybody who believes the Clipse are just “coke rap” isn’t listening with a discerning mind. The lyrics represent so much more.
nightmares is their best remorse track
Realest Clipse song.. Ever.
That verse stuck with me the moment I heard it, I’ve kept the song in heavy rotation since then.
Nice fucking post, MZ!
