Notable Quotable - Young Chris On “Run To The Roc”
AUDIO By TC on August 26, 2009 at 2:46 pm“I love my niggas for life, ain’t no doubt about that
My nigga (Free), My nigga (Crakk)
Blow a shot for Mack
Oschino & Sparks, them niggas my heart
Sold by plunder, keep it 100 from the start
‘Whole Prop, we was fresh off the block like what
Came at Nas, came at the Lox
Ain’t give a fuck
Whoever came at Big Homie had a problem with us
See we was all we knew, in Roc-A-Fella we trust
Now this bullshit split-up, fucked the whole shit up
Knocked us back to scraddles, fuck we get back to that?
Niggas need you Big Homie, gotta get back to rap
I mean vet’s expect 16, said you had my back
Now we back out on the corner, niggas laugh at that
Seeing Neef out on the streets, how you ain’t mad at that?
Let alone niggas plan my demise
Tough Luv, Big Homie you ain’t stand by my side
How can I…Run to the Roc…”
Young Chris from “Run To The Roc” off the album The Broad Street Bully
AmpGeez a.k.a. Hate Me Now, Thank Me Later Says:
Jay failed for not grooming some young MC’s to rep the brand. You gotta give it to Dame cause it’s obvious who had the vision at Roc-A-Fella.
Does Young Chris even have Hov’s number?
It sure doesn’t appear that way. Regardless of when this was recorded (most likely circa The B. Coming,) the verse still retains much of its implications. The Blueprint 3 highlights appearances from fresh faces such as KiD CuDi, J. Cole and Drake; a subliminal shot to the gut that Big Homie is “off that” Dynasty rubbish.
To his credit however, Young Chris hasn’t strayed from the path that’s brought him the most success. How many former foot soldiers can you think of that stuck in the game for better or worse? And put out credible product at that? Hov or no Hov, the young gunner has kept his clip full for the shootout. Even if he did have to hustle for bullets.
Diamonds are forever my ass.

I thought Young Chris was ill. I remember the Roc mixtape with Funk Flex and Jigga hosting, and Jay kept emphasizing how cold he was at 16.
the only person jay ever had a vision for was himself.
i read somewhere people asking why beans wasn’t on jay’s bp3 and so forth and so on. that’s because jay ain’t in the hood no more. how corny would it sound now if jay started saying what beans and the rest of the now ‘former’ roc guys are still saying. they live it. jay lives in the back of a maybach and st. tropez. he just ain’t hungry no more. now he’s doin what the rest of the others are doing; getting the ‘whats hot right now’ on his album for record sales. cmon. who cares. the heads guesting on bp3 care cause its a co-sign and a good look for him. i was hoping jadakiss would be the point guard for the new roc, but that just ain’t so. jay don’t need to worry about sales but rather concern himself w/ making his money touring and the other 16 businesses he got. stick w fam cause when all is said and done, that’s all you’ll have. you said it TC, “diamonds are forever my ass”
That Peter Tosh sample is some god damned fire.
yea its obvious that dame was the person grooming the artist an telling them what they sounded hot on an what they didnt - jay dnt hav the time or jus doesnt like grooming young artists an i think its partly because he has a competitors attitude like of a MJ23 who never wants to see anyone overpass his skill set an for better or worse it shows in his career history of artist he’s signed and there success - remember it was dame who believed in kanye from the beginning not jay

That’s one of the reasons I think Nas is that much more of an artist. He continues to grow and do new things while…. ya know
so Jay is responsible for the careers of his crew? I thought the object of the game was to be successful……we looking at two different trains of thought- true: Jay looking down while everyone else is looking up. If your career is slipping who’s fault is it?
so if I win - I’m an ass cause I didn’t bring you with me?
put in work………
everybody got an excuse/story to tell…..
im sorry but whoever wrote this article - sparks verse deserved to be hilighted as well his verse was just as vivid as young chris’s i feel sorry for them boys
“I aint recieved a check, since my boy Mac was sentenced/Yall all set us back, wit your personal buisness/Now we back in the trenches in this hurtin position,Imagine me in the kitchen somewhere workin the dishes?/You got ya wish whoever planned my demise, Tough luv big homie you aint stand by my side how could I…RUN THE ROC” - Sparks
“What you eat don’t make me shit.”
Men need to stop relying on other men. Music is an industry, and it’s cut throat. I had to tell so many associates of mine, “This is just business’ dog. We ain’t friends.” Cuz if it came down to my son eating, or you eating, fuck you.

People always want jayz like the messiah,
young chris x mark ronson x roc nation = next year
don’t panik. oh n don’t blame jigga, thx rocafella for young c !
plus young chris, beanie and freeway ’s sales are fucking down…
so they don’t need no more a major label, independence now !
maybe young chris, he’s young, so he can encore thought about a great career and some Gold albums… but this era is hard, sells are down, internet is global… so.. Roc Nation must really to put classic albums, with him, with J.Cole for that !!!
@ D. Sinclair
i agree with you big homie as far as looking out for one’s best interest first but if ever this industry of ours is to be taken seriously (and more importantly for these black men that call themselves execs to be taken seriously) then business ETHICS need to be put in place. you can still keep your interest before all else but one doesn’t have to go about completely f’n over the rest to keep your son straight.
in fact, if whomever is leading had better insight initally, then no one on the “team” (whether its a business associates, friend or family) would be left out in the cold when the leader gets a better deal on the table.
Rely on talent not marketing and promotion.
we WAS fresh off the block. not anymore. thanks Hov for abandoning your artists/fans/your label/the Diplomats. Fuck you
Sinclair I feel you but when youre in charge of these artists and then ypu leave them out to dry you can’t use the excuse that the industry is cutthroat. Anyone whose had contact with one shady jewboy A&R knows the industry isnt for making friends. The Roc wasnt just a label it was a group of similar artists who actually had chemistry. it wasnt forced it was real. butjay dont give a fuck when are the tides going to finally turn on jay
Well, according to this sight, Jay Z has already drowned and we are beating a dead corpse.
Holy shit - FUCK the politics - what a fucking SONG.
DL’in it - AND the mixtape.
GGGOOOOOOOOOOOD music - struggle rap.
Jay did leave niggas behind man. Great rapper. But as president of Def Ja he was GARBAGE. He let the whole state prop, DIP’s, Joe Budden, Kiss, Nore stand alone. Atleast on Bad Boy niggas get to bring out one LP. DAMN!
i am one of the biggest jay-z ‘can do no wrong’ believers, but now this shit makes me not wana fk with hova, he did these boys wrongggg! i am a big fan of jay-z and it hurts to say it. but dammmmmnnn this stuff translates into some beautiful music! The Broad Street Bully - Beanie Sigel is some of the most heart felt music ive heard not jus from thes guys but from hiphop as awhole in a long time. Im prayin n hopin that on blueprint 3 jigga sprays that real sh*t from the soul. im stil gona listen to jay but i hope he sorts these guys out on roc nation coz they deserve it. young chris has been iceberg slim since day 1, hes been slept on harrrrd, i cud go on forever…btw cosign Freddanker
chris been spiting since he was on the rock check out all his mixtapes that boy is fire he delivers all the time and can hold his own with whoever in the game yeah jay slept on him be he about to wake them up
I’m from Brooklyn we in here! First I got to say that Jay Fucked Up! He Fucked Up! That whole State Prop. Jay Had his Dynasty even Kanye knew It! Jay needs to get State Prop back in business. Somebody needs to help them out real talk. Not to many emcee’s that can Fuck with Beans not to many Broad St. Bully Top 10 Alive today maybe top 5 alive Young Chris Still needs that shine cuz Chris can Spit his ass off he needs that solo joint with Kanye producing man Off That! Kanye go get Chris. I’m out BP3 should be interesting no Beans no Bleek WTF Jay seriously that’s like Quincy & no MJ on thriller. OBTW Timberland stupid shit you said about not giving JAY your best beast still mad he didn’t give him the whole album to do who da fuck is going to buy your album tim nobody besides you and magoo where da fuck he been at
dame was the heart of roc. once he left and jay did all those side deals n cut his boy out i cant listen to his crap or wear his crap. and im not surprised how the artists have been treated dame was business jay was spits now when jay took over business you see how it suffers. i could care less about the roc everybody ridin jays dick all the time for what. he aint loyal he aint down hes a punk fuck if he got a banger out or whatever his credibility shot. fuck old ass
Eh,Beans and Free were the only ones that were consistently hot, and you see they are still putting out records. I never thought Bleek was any good even back when Jay was proppin him up. I was always like damn that this nicca Bleek is trash, what does Jay see in him. Always felt that Beans and Free were hot but the rest of these dudes just never had it in them to stay in the rap game consistently on their own two feet. The hip hop industry is not cut out for everyone, including dudes that can flow and at the end of the day thats what its all about, you gotta be able to stand on your own two feet.
Jay didnt need nobody to hold his hand when he came out. So really if people are feeling you then you you will thrive and if people are not feeling you then you will not. Its like all these dude could ever really rap about was the street life and rap has kinda evolved past that and these niccas didnt evolve with the game which is why they all fell off. Jay evolved with the game and you can see he hardly raps about that street stuff anymore.
There are some really good hip-hop artist that get left out. Look at M.O.P., the signed at one time with the Roc, no CD, then with 50… Nothing.. I don’t understand, I really believe they had everything you could need, but they hit when the whole art started to totally change the banging shit started getting looked over for commercial. I guess Jay and 50 thought they were marketable outside of NY.. I’m from Cincy and I loved that shit and “Home Sweet Home” is still on heavy rotation in my Zune!
