Short Bus Eli Gets Long Money Contract
SMOKE BREAK By S.Cadet on August 6, 2009 at 10:39 amElisha Manning has 97 million reasons to smile.
The Giants dropped a six year contract extension that will grant him about 15 mill a year. This deal makes him the highest paid player in the NFL and bests Peyton’s bottom line by a good seven figures. Of course the “short bus Eli” jokes will pursue despite the payday.
As a Giants fan that’s seen his ups and downs throughout his career, I don’t think he’s worth damn near 100 million bucks. Yes, he’s gotten better each year and the Giants wouldn’t have that chip if he didn’t go off late in the year and maintained momentum in the post season. Still it seems a bit excessive: even for one of the most notable quarterbacks in the L.
He won’t have much time to celebrate since he’ll have to get used to up and coming talent. Plaxico is too busy getting indicted and well-dressed Toomer signed with the Chiefs. That leaves Steve Smith (the layaway edition) and Kevin Boss really. I’m sure Hakeem Nicks will get his chances this year but it looks like Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw will have their work cut out for them.
While the Giants are due for an interesting year, at least Eli is the superior Manning going by the check book.

Anytime you can lock up the 10th best QB in the league for an unreasonably huge portion of your cap room, that’s a move you got to make.
The fact that he makes more money than his brother (and everybody else) now is a crime. And this is coming from a Giants fan. The guy won us a Super Bowl, and that’s awesome, but $15 mill. per year?
Of course, none of this will matter if there’s no cap next year when the CBA expires. The Giants are one of the most profitable teams in the NFL, so we’ll be fine.
As a diehard Cowboys fan, this baffles me. Now, I’m not hating because at this point Manning is leagues better than Tony “I-Can’t-Play-Well-Past-November” Romo.
BUT, $100M on Eli? Ehhhh, I’m not so sure. But hey, maybe that’s why I’m leaving a comment here and not signing checks there.
Hey, I can’t fault Eli though. I know if someone put a contract on my desk with those numbers, I’d be quick to sign too.
We’d be happy to trade you Tavaris and Sage. Shit I’d even throw in Sid Rice
What’s in my pocket daaaaaaaaaaawg?
Damn near a Hunniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid

I could be wrong but I detect a hint of sarcasm in this statement lol.
only eli I know is porter motherfuckers.
I felt a certain way about this figure. I still do to be honest. But I am not worried. I know one thing, the Giants will be ready. Tommy Boy will have the young WRs and our rookies ready. Last year, Plax was our offensive focus. But not this year! Still, $100M is definitely steep.
HE MAKES MORE THEN HIS BBROTHER NOW! I THINK THAT THIS MAY BE TOO MUCH! BUT HE IS ONE LUCKY MAN TO MAKE THAT MUCH MONEY GEEZ! http://askthecollegekid.blogspot.com/
I don’t think Eli is worth 100 million either; but the way some are hating on him for getting the money is crazy. I was watching Marcellus Wiley on ESPN talking about how Eli isn’t worth the money. Marcellus had 1 good season in the NFL he is the last person to tell who deserves what. If his agent can get the Giants to give this contract, good for his agent and good for Eli.
we will be happy to lay him out on the 50 yard line at the LINc….nd end the midgets chances of being relevant in the NFC east….We are seeking REVENGE!!!!
Wow this post looks like I wrote with a lot of hatred haha. I understand the Giants had to lock him up and the cap is getting axed as John C. said. But damn son, $100 Mill?
The front office must be really confident in their wideouts cause the Giants got much worse in that category on paper. Kevin Boss has his moments as a TE and Steve Smith is only OK at this point since he’s mad inconsistent. I was hoping they’d sign some decent receivers this off season but they decide to run a check for this cat. It’s cool that he’s getting paid but that money could’ve gone elsewhere. That is, unless they got some money hidden in a couple of mattresses somewhere.
now to wait on a secret tape involving Eli making it rain at a pub to a bunch of Talyor Swift-looking country bishes……
matter of fact, I’d rain on Taylor Swift any day…hehe.
The Giants had no choice. He’s the franchise QB for a team in the largest market in the world.. Who else is available thats as good or better? They been to the playoffs every year. Super Bowl MVP.
I don’t think Eli deserves as much as he’s getting but I can’t blame the Giants for paying him. He’s a Superbowl champ, MVP, and he’s done a good job of keeping the Giants on a winning track despite some roster issues.
With all that being said, Peyton is the superior Manning and don’t you ever forget it. #18 for life Go Colts.
..and Mike Vick is broke out of work.
Sure.
